As it should be if you ask me. Im more surprised that it hasnt turned into a catted vs catless shit show. Lol
Agreed, and eh no point in debating that anymore. I'm too old to have a catless exhaust these days lmfao.

Glad this thread about catted UEL headers has turned into an opinion fest on UEL vs EL . You guys really are a special bunch.
Please, please people - all of your posts on this thread about catted UEL headers MUST be about catted UEL headers, nothing else!

FWIW, you do realize that nobody is forcing you to read/follow any thread?

Just like the dude who started the RocketChip thread:

OP - "Hey, what do you guys think of this snake oil POS?"
Forum - "It's a total POS you shouldn't let anywhere near your car."
OP - "Why are you all so mean."

Found this video from last year. I'm suprised I haven't seen it here yet. Unequal length certainly does decrease the torque "dip" even on our cars. But we do need to wait for the increased diameter pipes.

I know it has been discussed before. Basically some power gained in some areas and some power lost in others. Keep in mind this is untuned as well. JDL and FT speed both sell catted UEL headers that have larger diameter primaries. I am willing to bet the results will be similar. Removing the cat as done in the video will still allow much more flow even with the slightly smaller primary tubes. Tuning is where all the difference will be. I am mostly curious to see the results of tuning alone and then tuning with a header.

The dude is that video has had the worst sounding exhausts on his cars forever. Typical kid that thinks making it loud is the same as making it sound good. Totally different things.
I have recently ordered a JDL EL catted headers with a resonator just keep the in cabin drone down to match my Q300 cat back that is already on it, and then my tuner will finish it with Dyno tune with the ECU tech software to it on 93 or 94 octane but that video the other had on with straight pipes is great perhaps for the track , but mine is a Daily Beast lol and not out to draw the attention of the cops 👮‍♀️ lol , however drop the secondary cat if possible!

I grabbed a JDL catted UEL. I already have the Borla catback and a front pipe with a resonator but no 2nd cat. Should sound pretty great when I install the header. I am waiting on the race rom features so I can tune for flex fuel.
Can't wait to hear that. I'm going catted UEL at some point in the spring with the HKS spec L gen 2 catback and stock front / overpipe. Gonna keep two cats I think.

Excited for you mate! Eager to hear your thoughts on the pairing with the Borla cat-back.

I’ve arranged to buy a FA24 version JDL catted UEL and 2.5” Ultra Quiet front/over pipe combo second hand from someone next week. Going to be pairing them with the OEM mid pipe and rear section, at least for the time being, to keep volume at a minimum.

Any idea why the original owner pulled the parts off?

They’re trading in the car and returning it to stock form as much as possible prior to doing so.

I personally prefer the EL, but similar to @TRU-BOOST, I couldn’t pass up a deal. If anyone reading this ends up with the catted JDL 4-2-1 EL that would like to trade for my catted JDL UEL, please let me know!

I installed my JDL header today. Car sounds amazing. I did have an issue though. The skid plate would not go back on. It was hitting one of the header tubes on the passenger side. My options were to either run without a skid plate or "customize" it. So, I brought the skid plate out into the lawn along with my persuading tool (a 3lb mini sledge) and beat the shit out of it. I gotta say, it fits like a glove now. 🤣

I dont know if anyone else has run into that on a 2nd gen. I know it was hit or miss on 1st gen cars, especially with catted headers. I would think that if the OEM manifold fits in there with that big ol' heat shield on it, aftermarket ones should fit easily. I considered reaching out to JDL and likely would have if it wasnt just barely making contact. It was a 30 second fix. Some people wouldnt want to bash their skid plate and I get that. To me it was better than not having one on there.

I will get some soon. I finished up right when I had to leave for work.
I hope he will Dyno it to see what power this can produce on 93 pump gas ⛽:) for every day driving!
I dont plan on doing another dyno until after it gets tuned. It sounds pretty amazing, but I dont feel any difference. If I had to guess there should be a little more mid range torque and be basically the same power down low and up top as stock.

I had a few other questions for JDL today about the cats and coatings on their products, so I took the opportunity to also asked if what @TRU-BOOST experienced was a widespread issue that they were seeing among customers or more of a one-off thing.

This is what Jesse (owner of JDL Auto Design) responded with:
"Every header that we build here should be checked in our fixtures for skid plate clearance. Some parts on certain headers are closer than others tolerance wise and we have a special fixture to check this. Occasionally there have been headers that have been shipped that didn't clear. I don't know if they didn't get checked or what but as we have a few different guys that do QC and shipping depending on the day of the week. If anything goes out that isn't right I will replace it. I want to know about these issues."

Jesse has been great about responsing promptly and thoroughly across the multiple times I've reached out with questions, today was no exception. He seems to be a stand-up guy that does right by his customers — makes me feel confident in that if I have any fitment issues with the headers and FP/OP that I purchased 2nd hand, i'll be taken care of.
