C’mon, is it serious? Is everybody Sebastien Loeb here and drifting day and night on public roads? It is not possible to drive this car for fun without drifting? I just want to have a light, agile sports car - not a 4-5 door sedan - i don’t want to drift at all - just drive normally and safe around and sometimes enjoy it well within its limits. What about wet roads - is it sliding left and right all the time when accelerating? Sometimes my wife would need to drive it - is it safe for her to drive such a beast? I don’t want a car which is a safety risk all the time and be afraid of sliding accidentally to the other side of the road just because i pushed a bit more gas and doesn’t have wheel skills like Loeb or Makinen…If this is true what you drifters are writing here this is not my car and another selfmade Makinen will be happy when I sell it after it is not sold any more in EU. Please comfort me this car is not a beast. Thanks to all!
With all the safety stuff turned on, it's like a normal car, just lower and stiffer, with bad back and side visibility.

Take my winky eye emoji seriously in this case. This was a direct response to a question about whether it will drift on dry tarmac without serious provocation/abuse. It will do that.

I am not a drifter, I drive the car on public roads but my love of cars comes from rallying and I really enjoy being able to adjust the angle of a car with the throttle. You can do this with the car, but you would need to be quite committed or spirited in your driving.

Look, the car is not a beast, in fact it is really the total opposite of that, it's a pussycat and I do not think it will bite you unless you are taking serious liberties.

My wife will drive mine and she is not going to have issues with it.

This is Toyota, not TVR - they have not built and put on sale a monster. You and your wife will be absolutely fine.

People drove around in E30 BMWs in the 80's and most of them managed to keep them between the ditches.

This exactly, not to worry, you can still drive it normally. The question was can you get the back to step out intentionally without having to push it. It might step out in the wet but the nannies will take over. If you're used to RWD it won't surprise you.

Could you please specify what you mean by this:
“It might step out in the wet but the nannies will take over.”
The last time I drove RWD was my S2000 back in 2009 - I never had any scary moment, slide, drift or anything wet or dry without VSA (the ESC system in Honda). But still enjoyed driving it hard and many times. That is why it was so scary to me to hear the 86 drifts so and so…

So you had an S2000 and now you're afraid of the GR86? Come on, you got to be kidding! :D

Bro you have to test drive it! You wont believe us but this is easiest RWD car to drive... Handling is just insane and does not matter if its rainy or not. Trust! You will be really suprised when you try, same as your wife. And with everything on i think also your wife will be able to drift on crossroads with no problems or scary moments at all, trust.

Its not like any other car.

Its like a kart with strong engine :D

Just to add this is my first RWD lol....

Just because everybody is talking about how the 86 drifts. Never drifted with the S and never wanted to. I never felt it was missing from her joy of driving. Having seen all the tests and you guys talking here built the impression in me: “it is not possible to drive the 86 without drifting” Anyway, now it is clear. I have no doubt it drives like a sports car and I will only drift if you want it to. Besides the S2000 I always Had FWD Hondas and never felt wanting to drift. I just like the RWD setup for straight line acceleration - this is the weak point of all powerful FWD Honda. I can hardly wait to test drive my own GR86 - if Subaru ever manufactures it and Toyota delivers.
