Well, my biggest fear became reality. I got pulled over by Roseville PD last night. I was driving down and as I was downshifting I got some pops and bangs. As I passed the intersection I noticed a explorer speeding like crazy in my side mirror. I didn't think much of it but then I noticed it was a cop. I was driving the speed limit but then he started slowing down and playing with me I slowed down as well. Then he flashed his lights and went into my lane. Immediately I pull over where safe. As I turned off my vehicle, the first thing he immediately said is that is way too loud for me. As I was apologizing for his concern he said my car sounded like gun shots and it is unacceptable. He Immediately said you're going to the state reff no questions asked. He told me to pop the hood and he looked around and found nothing... he said If the car was stock and it is. I told him from factory it likes popping especially with this exhaust. After all that fiasco, he said. Take it home and if I catch you again without it getting cleared. I will tow it unfortunately. My OEM exhaust was thrown away by one of my friends a year back. I never expected Roseville PD to be pulling people over for this now I've been living here for years and never had issues with tint or this. Maybe they need to up their quota I don't know.
Does anybody in the Sacramento County Bay area have their oem exhaust that they're willing to sell? I just need to convert it back to stock and get it cleared and then re Install my AWE exhaust that I have. I'm pissed off with this BS decibel law. I see Harleys zipping with no issues.
If anyone with a 22+ brz or 86 has it I'm willing to meet you half way. Message me and I'll give you my number

Maybe the dude's seen some action and didn't appreciate the noises triggering a PTSD flashback. (It's not like the movies, it's an extreme emotional response that's out of proportion to the trigger, but recalls appropriate responses from the original situation that the trigger brought up. In other words, the pops sounded enough like gunshots that it flipped an internal switch in his brain, releasing the kinds of extreme emotions he'd felt in an actual gunfire situation. Following that sometimes comes rage even if that wasn't triggered by the flashback itself due to the feeling of powerlessness from the loss of emotional control and/or possible unresolved feelings from the original incident, like say, he didn't get to kill some bastard shooter or shooting him wasn't enough, so rage from that event springs up.) Either way, that popping shit is annoying, anyways. It was cool when it was rarely encountered vintage performance cars with vintage engines that saw overly rich exhaust events, but this artificial, intentionally tuned stuff is the new fart can.

Definitely, I keep my OEM in my garage for this very reason even though I got a super tame exhaust. Just feel like it's good practice when living in Cali to have your stock parts, saved my ass once already when I got reffed a few years ago on my FRS. I'll always say to keep your stock parts, you never know if you might need em!

I am no big proponent for loud street cars, but I don't see how they can enforce noise laws it if they're not enforcing the same laws on motorcycles equally and I've not seen that enforced at all. Loud pipes do NOT save lives, they just say mommy-mommy look at me! I have exhaust cut outs on my 70 Olds, but do not go through neighborhoods with open headers, that's just being an inconsiderate ass to society.

Good luck finding the OEM stuff. I hope you can get some help here.

Cant agree there. I have had everything from quiet little japanese bikes that purr like a sewing machine to loud snarling 'murican bikes. I always try to ride very defensively but still every way too close call I have ever had was on a quiet bike where drivers were just plain oblivious that I was there. Its just instinctive that when you hear a motorcycle, you become more alert trying to spot it.

@TRU-BOOST we see eye-to-eye on a lot of things but I'm a loud-pipe skeptic, lol. A lot of the loud-pipes guys seem obsessed with safety when it comes to loud pipes, but they are wearing no helmet, no gear, and riding a chopper with ape hangers, a skinny front tire, no front brakes, and just left the Bottom of the Barrel biker bar at midnight after their eighth tall boy.

All the more reason they cant afford to get hit...!!
But seriously, I fully understand because I literally play both sides of the debate. On sport bikes I do gear up. I know they are quieter and I have a higher risk of not being heard\seen. I also tend to do more foolish things on them. I say I drive "defensive" in the sense of making sure I dont get hit, but believe me I have no problems doing crazy speeds and leaning hard.
However when I hop on my muscle bike I do the exact opposite. Jeans, t-shirt and some sunglasses are all I leave with. I justify it by saying there is know way anyone can NOT hear and therefore see me. I also dont do any goofy shenanigans on that bike. I just cruise. Totally a Jekyll and Hyde situation depending on which bike I am on. I wont claim it to be smart or defend the behavior in any way. But I have been doing it for 20 years and I own it...!!
