Hey folks! I'm glad to join the community. I have a question about the exhaust. The idea is to get a good OEM+ upgrade. Legamax Premium is nicely done, but isn't it too quiet? Is it worth upgrading to Hi-Power Spec L? I'm looking for a sound that's calm enough to hear the exhaust, and due to the lack of possibility of hearing it in person, I need opinions on this. attached some pics of my car shot on soviet camera lens;)

Borla S type is what I run and always recommend. Its mild by itself, but a noticeable improvement. Mild enough so that if you choose to add more exhaust components in the future to enhance power, that it still is not overwhelmingly loud like many other catbacks become. I also love it because it uses slip joints rather than hard bolted flanges. Lets face it, aftermarket parts rarely have OEM fit and consistency so its not uncommon to have some kits hang a little higher\lower than others. Or see one exhaust tip centered while the other sits too high\low\too one side. Slip joints solve that problem. The flexibility is there to get it lined up spot on everytime. I have had to readjust mine twice since the catback was 1st installed. Once when I added the front pipe and again when I swapped the header. Each part I added tweaked the exhaust just enough to throw my exhaust tips out of whack. If not for the adjustment allowed with the Borla, I may have had a lop sided exhaust which would have driven me insane.

I currently have the spec l 2 and its bone quiet at idle. I've had the chance to listen to some spec ls in person and they are a LOT louder than I expected. Even with my UEL catless headers, the spec l 2s do a nice job of only really opening up once you hit the mid rev-range. Borla Type S is also a great recommendation (tru-boost approved). Spec L/Spec L2s carry the HKS tax so it's up to you on whether or not you can find one for cheap or want to shell out money for JDM stuff.

Hit up KCG motorsports on IG for a good deal on parts when you make a decision and he'll cut you a good deal, especially on shipping.

I also have the HKS spec L2 and it is barely louder than stock at idle. With a HKS header and a dual resonated frontpipe my exhaust is only "loud" at cold start and I don't have drone with that combo. Personally I like it a lot, but also I got a pretty good deal on mine otherwise I might have gone with a different option.

It's not very noticeable if at all. I have heard there are two different versions with different materials that drone a little more than the other but I haven't had any issues. Only time I had drone is when I went fully catless with dual resonated front pipe, and even then it was only there when I was flooring it at 3k revs in 6th gear.

I would highly reccomend the Spec L 2s if you can get a good deal on them, they sound amazing. You can always make this car louder with proper headers.

So, so many exhausts for the FA24 platform drone or have too loud of "boomy" notes. I cycled through a few exhausts before trying, and loving, the HKS Legamax Premium axleback. My video:

2022+ BRZ GR86 HKS Legamax Premium Axleback Exhaust Unboxing & Review

Since this video I've installed both a JDM airbox and HKS drop-in filter, and also disabled the fake engine noise. The sounds from the car are perfect, to me, now with no unpleasantness, it's quiet on the highway, and loud enough when hooning.

...if you get the Borla be sure to get the Gen1 for the FA20. The Gen2 is too damn loud.

Just a follow up on this discussion - I wanted to ask for the collective opinion as to what exhausts fall into the ‘just a little more noticeable than stock but won’t be obnoxious to the neighbors.’ I’ve read the reviews on the hks legamax premium and that seems to be a popular choice. Are there any other options that have a similar decibel rating and no drone? GR optional exhaust? Any others? Thanks everyone
