I think Toyota is full of crap here and doesn't tell us the full picture. I didn't notice that US dealers stopped receiving their allocations or that US members received the same QA problem message delaying their cars (if I'm wrong, US fellows are wholeheartedly welcomed to share their part of knowledge, thanks! (y) ). Hard to believe that a QA problem with the car would be an EU specific issue.

The only activity that Toyota seems to engage in with great success so far, is to be the top contender for winning the title "Deliver the least amount of GR86 to Europe in favor of other markets".
So I have done my "research". I have been through hours of calls and dozens emails with pretty much all Toyota dealers in the EU. I will try and write down my observations in understandable way.

Toyota Europe is in the position of an importer with market specific demands such as FAP and headlight washers. These cars overall are not popular here, so that puts the importer in a bad position. Market specific demands with low volume. The Subaru plant will prefer the NA and the JP market when any shortage or disruptions occurs.

Toyota in Europe is divided into many regions, each country branch reports to their subdivison, subdivison reports to the Toyota Europe. Toyota Europe is the only entity here that can affect the whole process.

Example - Toyota CZ reports to Toyota CEE, Toyota CEE reports to Toyota Europe. So the dealer in the country is absolutely irrelevant in the big picture. Toyota CZ plays minimal role here as well, it is just a marketing/PR entity in that country. These small markets, such as Toyota CZ, are being pushed to do the "scarce" and "exclusivity" marketing/PR, otherwise Toyota CEE or Toyota Europe would not find your market profitable.

The situation is the same to the east of Germany, one salesman in the Baltics didn't even know that GR86 is a car.

Germany has many allocations but is specific due to the GR Center brand, which is being promoted hugely. Toyota dealers that are GR Center branded are not allowed to sell cars for export, in order to promote the GR brand and its "exclusivity". However, there are some Toyota dealers that are not GR branded and can get the GR86. Germany expects to have more allocations in the July 2022, delivery spring 2023.

Belgium, France and Luxembourg is the best bet. Many allocations, low demand, good MSRP. All dealers there, no exception, told me the estimated delivery is February 23. There was no info about exclusivity or limitations in Benelux and France, the only limitation is the safety regulation that will come to effect in June 2024.

Italy and Spain looked promising as well however I didn't push it further due to language barrier and distance.

just to lighten the mood a bit, I'd like to point out that we've reached page #69 of this thread.

nice.

There's a used black 86 (AT) for sale here, it's been delivered in February already. HOW?? WHY?? What's the story behind such early delivery..

I was interested as well. I was told the following - Toyota Europe is based in Belgium, cars for press/EU regulation/testing purposes are all registered in Belgium.

Yet Toyota HQ/test center still doesn't have a test car. Some customers are already driving one. It makes no sense to me. They have about 20 red press cars with Belgian plates just sitting somewhere right now. No need to re-register them, just get it over with and deliver them to dealerships. Pisses me off.
Test driving and confirming fitting a child seat works would calm my mind a lot as I've bought it blindly like most of us. I'll also be putting my current car for sale after a test drive, the market is craving for it.

france good msrp?
we only pay between 34-38k € or so in germany. thats basically the same

I'll add my 2 cents from Slovakia.
Car ordered in March with first expected delivery date in June/July.
Premium manual black on black.

Next update in April: delivery date delayed to December
Next update in May: delivery date delayed to March'23
Next update today morning: hopefully by end of 2023, early 2024.

Reason: Same like above in Czechia with dealers and importers.

I was ensured by dealer that I WILL GET my car, I just have to wait.
They have just finished training on how to correctly provide feedback to customers and part of that feedback is, that due to semicon shortage and other global challenges, priority is to keep producing high-runner production cars on behalf of GR vehicles.

Pff, what is a couple of GR's versus thousands of Corollas, Yaris' and RAV4's.
I fear my dealer could cancel the order after months and months of waiting.

This is bullshit and i hardly believe this is true

2024, what?
If that's true they'll hardly sell any GR86 there before they need to stop production in Q2 2024...
True, it will be only a couple of hundred cars maybe 1-2000 to be sold all over in EU. I don't think they stop production in mid '24 they just cannot be sold in EU after that date. I think they continue to sell for another 4-5 years in North America.
The only option remains for us if official delivery fails is grey import from USA / Canada. Not sure though how, if at all this will be possible. It is typically very difficult to get roadworthiness certificate in for US certified cars in the EU - at least as I heard. We wait and see....nothing more we can do.

What a load of BS from Toyota, yeah, semiconductor shortage, and the cars keep getting delivered to the US and even other European markets. Way to go to tarnish the brand with such stupid crap. If it really is pushed to 2024 they can keep it, and also any other Toyota.
