I'll be recording my experience with these in this thread.

The D8S came in a very nice plastic case with 3 pieces of paper: packing list, inspection certificate and single sheet of instructions. Most notable was the warning not to connect the USB C port to a printer as it might damage the D8S. I found that rather disturbing. WiFi printers only.

I'm highly confident of the MX+ based on everything I've read about it, so my focus will be on the D8S while the Amazon return window is open.

And the answer is "NO". I've attached the email chain for those interested in the details. The MX+ and the OBDLink app on my iPad is vastly better than the D8S at less than 1/3 of the cost. Kudos to OBDLink. The only function that the D8S provided the MX+ did not was CAN topology.

Unfortunately, the D8S is a rabbit hole. But I don't have to keep it :)

OK, after a long wait the update finished and I went out and tried some more. I was able to navigate the Noise device and play the 500 Hz constant sime tone, the 30-700 Hz sine ramp and 2 fake engine noise options. No way to set anything.

At this point I'm very unimpressed by the D8S. I did manage to find additonal functionality, but no option to do anything but read and clear DTC codes. NO Mode08 functionality at all. So how will XTool respond?

Well, that's been "interesting". Lots of "Press OK" to go in a circle. First thing it did connected to the car was download multiple software updates. I'd already been forced to connect to my WiFi to use it. I eventually figured out that if I did not select Install I could not use the device.

Only gave me the option of 2022 or 2023 models.

It does an impressive AutoScan and appears show all the CAN IDs and the state. ACS was ON, but I couldn't turn it off. Had 4 maintenance modes 500 & 700 Hz sine wave and Fake Engine 1 and 2. However, I wasn't able to get them to work. By doing cancellation like noise cancelling headphones the ACS might be useful. That would actually be really nice.

It's currently downloading a huge number of make and model specific updates. Then I'll try the 86 again. I think it's rebooting ow, but I'll leave it until later.
