Today is a very sad day. I brought my 86 in for a basic oil change to my local Toyota dealership and come to find out one of their techs hit a pillar going into the bay. They said that they will get it fixed and provided me a loaner but I then learned that they are using a local body and collision place to do the repairs. I am a bit concerned about this that they can match the white pearl color like factory. Anyone else have a similar experience where damage was done while in the hands of Toyota Service? Should I be looking for additional compensation?

Definitely do your research on the body shop they are going to use. I had a super bad experience getting my whiteout 13 FRS rear bumper to match after a little old lady hit it. They ended up having to blend into the quarter panels.

Not sure how it is with the new color, but there were three different variation of the same color code for whiteout

again.. this is why current dealer techs are worthless.

a while back I had a friend who bought a 350z. the techs forgot to tighten the lug nuts after a rotation, so when my friend was on the freeway, two wheels came loose. fortunately they did not fall off. the studs were stripped and wheels were damaged.

he threatened to sue the dealer. they gave him a bunch of Nismo parts, wheels, intake, and several years of free service, lol.

I’ve pulled over with a wheel about to fall off and all three of the others loose on my wife’s car after a dealer service.

You really have to check everything. I shudder thinking about her being the one to have driven it home.

I went back to the dealer and said drug test your staff or I’m suing you. Obviously a hollow threat, but I did get a phone call the the tech was fired. I don’t enjoy getting people fired, but this guy was so negligent that he was subjecting people to fatality.

Gah. Sorry to hear. This is exactly why I'm afraid to bring my car in for service. It's almost like the warranty is useless, because ill just end up with more problems lmao. If I were you, I would absolutely demand they pay for a shop of your choice. They will definitely use the cheapest shop possible, and you will be getting a third rate repair that will look good for about a year. If even.

Quick update: The car came back but the paint did not match. The dent was taken out but the paint hard runs on the bottom and it was more white that the unique off white Halo color. The dealership manager who has been there for only 3 months said that white paint changes color over time based on being out in the sun and the Halo off white hue will be different. I looked at original pictures and it always had an off white color vs bright white that the panel came back with. I asked about compensation and he said he could throw in a couple of oil changes and I said how about lifetime of the car and he said they could not do it. So the car is going back to be fixed and I upgraded my loaner from a base Camry that literally was super basic to a Tacoma. Ugggh what a Pain In The Ass!

Yea I would absolutely not accept that repair. I guarantee all they did was fill the dent with body filler. Haphazardly throw tape on the edges to mask, and then spray with one thick layer of generic white paint, with a ton of overrun and overspray. Probably didn't even prep the surface. Was probably a 30 minute job. White paint only changes over time if it's not taken care of.

also- I dont know if applies to all paints, but the panel, ie. a fender, vs hood, if the fender was oriented the same position as a hood, when you put the fender on a car, it would actually or could actually be a different color. some colors if I recall, need to be sprayed, in the angle that it is on the vehicle. again, dont know if its all or some, but it does cause discoloration, even if its all from same batch.

For sure, especially if this is what you have to look foreword to for every oil change they provide with their dealer 0W20. If they damage a panel every time they change your oil, maybe eventually they can then get them all to match. I believe this will need to be elevated to Toyota corporate. Document everything!

Was pulling out of a Toyota parking lot when one of the attendants driving a new Corolla comes FLYING out of nowhere. Didn't even attempt to slow down to see if anyone was coming, just crossed right in front of me, had to slam on my brakes. A quick look at the kid and he couldn't have been older than 17. These are the type of people driving your car around at dealerships. If you have a pulse, you're hired at a Toyota dealership!

One of them ran into my last car with a golf cart at Toyota. The manager said I had to call my own insurance to report as a hit and run and if I did not he would have to fire the guy but he has kids so that would make me the asshole. I told him that is not my call to make and I would be getting a lawyer. Magically the dealer owner called me and assured me they would fix it.

I know I'm chiming in too late, but you ALWAYS have the right to choose where the repair gets done. If the dealership doesn't want to pay your shop directly, they can choose to deal with your insurance company instead.
