OEM TPMS Sensors

I believe the OEM TPMS sensors are Denso 550-0118. It looks like these are compatible with mostly late-model Toyotas and the Gen 2 BRZ. For some reason, the GR86 is not listed in the applications at Rock Auto (USA) or The Monkey Wrench (Canada). The good news - if Rock Auto's info is accurate - is that these don't need to be programmed or cloned, just relearned per the OEM procedure. Thoughts, comments?

Same, I bought T4 (from TireRack, these are also Densor Pacific) sensors and the Aukey TPMS tool and the process only took a few minutes. Had to use the tool to register which sensor is what wheel, then register that to the car. Didn't have to train the sensors, nor did I need the tires or wheels to be mounted.

edit: when you switch between the set of sensors, you'll need to drive a mile or two before the pressure values show up on screen

Really? I didn’t know the T4 from Tire Rack is the correct Denso Pacific. Good to know!

You can just wait to mount them. The Autel goes in clockwise order from LF, just hold the device near the respective sensor for the few seconds it takes to recognize it, do all four, then upload them to the ECU. It's so quick that I probably won't even bother loading the two winter/summer sets into the system and just re-register the sets every time. I'm pretty sure you have to do that with rotations, anyway, since the positions change.

Autel MaxiTPMS TS501. Now that you mention it, I wonder if the BRZ and the GR are similar to that regard that you can program the sensors as if it was a Camry, I'm pretty sure it will be fine since it's really just the same car.

I'm checking Tirerack for myself using the GR86, and it's giving me T6 as the recommendation as well. Maybe this is just a revision of the same sensor then.

Some additional research. The website tpms.com seems to indicate it is Pacific 550-0106 for the BRZ and GR86. The photo however looks more like the 550-0118. If you look up Pacific 550-0106 on a search engine, you will find photos of the silver valve stem like this T6 550-0106 picture on Amazon. It looks there there have been part number supercessions and the photos on the Subaru and Toyota OEM parts websites show silver valve stems.

Here are the sensors that Tire Rack shipped as their "T6". They are Pacific Industrial, made in Japan, but they have metal vs. OEM rubber stems. I think they will be OK for my winter wheel setup. Question: is it safe to assume that the Torx screw is already tightened to 1.2 ± 0.2 Nm? Or do they expect the installer to double-check it?

@Ritter @Duchess I just bought a set of wheels and tires with the t6 installed from Tire Rack. Using an Autel tool (MaxiTPMS TS508? or is there something better?) you "register"/"learn" the new sensors with the car? Does this allow you to use two sets of TPMS that you switch with the TPMS button in the glove box? Or did you clone the original sensors so the car doesn't know the difference? Thanks!

EDIT: found ritters thread here which answered most of my questions Autel TPMS Tool Relearn Procedure sounds like a pain and may or may not work with the TPMS button to switch wheels

Unless I’m mistaken, the PAD can’t do TPMS relearn, so you can’t upload wheel position to tell the car which sensor is at which corner of the car. The TS508 can.

I’m considering picking up a 508 or some other tool so I can do a position relearn after tire rotations. (Or anytime tire/wheel position can get changed, like replacing tires or swapping between sets of wheels.)
