My time to shine again. First off, RZ is the top trim in Japan, so you got all the extras - 8 speakers, steering headlights, heated seats etc.

As for the head unit: That's the base 7inch Toyota navi unit that can be purchased as an optional extra when ordering cars here in Japan (all GR86 here come standard with NO headunit at all. You have to pay $$$ to have Toyota install one). The units are... fine? I guess? But for your purposes they're kinda useless. You'd be best off swapping something else, unless you can read Japanese. There's no way to switch languages, and AFAIK the maps/navigation will not work outside of Japan.

The good news is you can put in pretty much anything you want from here on. 7inch units will use that extra bezel piece surrounding the head unit, but you can remove that and install a 9inch unit which will look way cleaner.

You'll need to find a breakout adapter plug in order to connect aftermarket head units, so might need to do some research on what you can buy in your area. Here's a Japanese website with an example of the type of connector you need: トヨタ GR86 TOYOTA GR86 (subaru BRZ) カーナビ取付けに必要なハーネス・カメラ変換・ステリモ変換 配線適合表 時風プレイス jifuplace. It's the first product in the list.

Given the previous owner installed a Toyota navi system, they might have also added the reverse camera. However In order to use that with other head units you'll need a converter to change it to an RCA (yellow video) plug. You can see that at the same link above, product name is: スバル純正バックカメラ. I think the product number is something you can search and maybe somewhere near you sells it.

Personally, I went with a 9inch Joying android unit. Ordered from Aliexpress. Used adapters from the website above.

Feel free to ask anything else. This is kinda my one area of expertise with these cars lol.

But technically those unit doesn't comes with the key features as per GR86 ?
I did saw the OEM 2022 head unit, and i just said to myself time to get an aftermarket unit, so 9 inch. Here i think we've JVC, pioneer, kenwood and some good brand.
Now i just need to find those two wire in English, wish i knew Japanese!

Sorry for the delay. Weekends get busy :)

Those harnesses don't look familiar/similar to what I used. This is what the connectors (going to the car) should look like: CUP_JP-CA115TS.jpg (600×300) (jifuplace.com)
From left to right, the connectors are Steering/Reverse/Brake signal connector, Main connector (for head unit - speakers etc), Grey connector for antenna.

I have a feeling that this harness is not currently sold outside of Japan, because the only models (at least that I'm aware of) that come "audioless" - which means no head unit and a completely different dashboard faceplate - is Japan. Everywhere else gets that integrated infotainment system.

If you are able to order from Japanese Rakuten or Yahoo Shopping, then the product# for the harness is: JP-CA115TS. Here's a Yahoo Shopping link. And here's a Rakuten link.

After doing some research, the screenshot no4 looks viable after discussing with the vendor that's gonna install the navi unit on my car.

Similar i read the Joying connectors it's like an AIO combo.
Somehow i managed to find a local vendor who has the parts for GT 86 but he's willing to try to install on my car.

So it comes with a bracket + the socket android for 9 inch aftermarket
I'm planning to go with this navi unit, hopefully it works.

Next's up is to find the built in feature for the gr86 so i can port in these features into the android navi unit.. PS i'm a I.T programmer so i'm still trying to inherit some built in features that's not applicable for the JDM ver.

I've manage to get my hand on the software, its just a matter of extracting it and porting it in.

Looks good man! I don't think you'll need their included plastic bracket, as that seems designed if you were going from USDM to a "JDM" spec.

The white connector looks exactly like the one for JDM models. Only thing seems to be missing is a connector to provide steering wheel controls, reverse signal, and parking brake signal (useful if you want to enable a reversing camera). Possible they can just make up a cable for that tho - it's only 3 wires + GND I think.

Also, would be amazing to hear if you can enable some of those extra features on JDM cars! Good luck!!
