I put a little motorcycle battery in mine, a Odyssey PC680. Its an AGM type like an Optima. I hasnt let me down at all but I do use the car most days and live in a temperate climate. If you live in a really cold climate or only use the car on weekends a tiny battery like this might not be the best fit.

You could also go the lithium battery route but they are a lot more expensive. I also have concerns about fire safety as they do require special chargers but in a car you're stuck with the factory charging system.

That is a really cool solution. MY 86 isn't a daily but i already have a noco 2 which supports agm and lithium so i hope i'd be good with that between drives.

Oh that is a much better price than what they want for the "car" battery. Are you using the AG terminal adapters or another brand and what tray are you using?

Same model # but yours clearly says 900 ca and that one is 780. Wondering what else may have been changed.

So 780 CCA would be more than OEM. You should be good with that as well.

 

I wasn't concerned so much with the CCA as much as a less obvious change. But I guess the only part that would be of any real concern would be the HPFS getting enough juice.

edit: i saw that optima is also starting to do lifepo4 batteries. They have a few smaller ones available now but the bigger ones are still "coming soon"

As for the concern on HPFS, remember all the battery does is start to car. Everything after that is the alternator.

No mention anywhere of cold cranking amps? If it is less that's less powerful than the stock battery comparing cranking amps of 810 stock to 780 with antigravity. Not trying to start any fights but seriously would need to know what the CCA are before I consider. Regardless of cranking amps.

 

Found it. CCA do not apply to lithium batteries because they do not test for it.
