Your thought is spot on. The threads do protrude into the bottom of the pan preventing the last little bit from coming out. If you are ok with leaving a tiny bit of oil behind you would love an extractor pump even better. You feed the line down the dipstick tube to the bottom of the oil pan, turn on the pump and suck it all out. The oil filter is up top as well so this means you dont even have to look at the bottom of the car.

 

So about those, even the dipstick is contoured to help it go in and out of the tube, how does a small line not get stuck in it(this must have happened before right?)

Somewhat related: is it fine for only the front end to be lifted up for an oil change, or should the car be leveled on all 4 corners to get the best results?

 

Yeah, the inlet tube is fairly tough. I have been using one for several years and on a lot of different vehicles. Never even the slightest sign of it getting stuck. You definitely can lift just the front to change the oil as well.

 

I did see a YouTuber prove those oil extractors take out everything. He removed the drain plug and not a drip came out.

This is the first car in my life that I will try to DIY everything I want to do to the car, and all maintenance related items. It's cheap enough that I'm not worried if something breaks. Didn't even do an oil change in my life before I did the 1k oil change on the GR86

 

Don’t do what I did the first time I used an extractor: the engine was still too warm and the tube melted a little. I was lucky to be able to have removed it completely but the tube was messed up.

 

I personally don't worry about a few mls of oil. Nothing will clean the engine dry of old oil completely apart from getting in there and mopping it all up!

I think (hope) he was referring to the draining of the oil part. The filling and checking of the dipstick should always be done when level.

Saves me a few minutes since the front end can be lifted all at once. So can the rears apparently, but the diff is wayyyyy out of reach to do that.

 

The daytona low profile long reach jack gets all the way to the diff with no problem. Gets under the front cross support as well without having to drive up on wood or mini ramps. At least it does if you are at stock ride height.
