EU approved exhausts

GT exhausts aren't homologated for the GR and therefore "illegal". Needs to be a catback probably? All environmental stuff needs to remain. Not sure about other EU countries but at least in Belgium it's pretty strict... Has anyone found EU exhausts for the GR specifically already?

EDIT for overview:
Currently these exhaust systems have EC approval:
- Milltek: GT86 - Toyota - Products (same exhaust as the GT86 but it does have a renewed certificate for the GR)

Keeping the environmental stuff intact is no issue. What are the other requirements? Do they do some kind of actual sound testing?
California is the most strict state in the USA with exhaust. This has zero impact on the tuners. It seems they all chop of their emissions equipment and run the biggest, fattest noisiest systems with no resonators they can. Not saying I support that kind of thing. Just saying it seems pretty easy to get away with.

That's impossible here. You need to pass an emissions test every year. The first couple of years this test is not required but I don't want to shop again in a few years. No decibel test (yet?). And if it doesn't have a EU homologation certificate specifically for your type of car, you have 2 weeks to remove the exhaust and have to pass the test again... so I'm looking for an exhausts with certificate. Many tuners remove their aftermarket parts every year but I'm not in to that. Pretty much everything needs to comply to some standard. Rims for example can hardly be different than stock size, offset etc. It's horrible, the car scene here is nothing compared to the US.

i received feedback from 2 german companies who will develope exhaust systems for the GR86. But they are awaiting their development car as we do... So that will probably take until next year.
Bastuck and Remus are the companies. They have also parts for the GT86. I am still waiting for feedback from FOX and Supersprint!
Beeing german companies, these will go with the German TUV. Most strict shit on earth lol.. :D

But for now and probably this year - no legal aftermarket exhausts (at least for Germany) specificly designed for the GR86.
All current aftermarket parts beein installed happily in the US are forbidden in the EU as far as i know (could be wrong). In germany you have no chance once the car is louder than listed on the papers.

No news received yet? :) I'm hoping when I go for an exhaust I won't hear as much of the unpleasant and worrying noises my car makes lol.
But so far only Milltek seems to have a EC exhaust. If it takes much longer for the others I might go for an EC Milltek with extra midpipe without resonator. Hope they don't see it at the inspection and if they do I'll just swap the midpipe every now and then.

Oh and maybe also good to know:
I asked AC Schnitzer if they are developing a kit and other parts for the GR86 like for the Supra.
They responded that they decided to not offer parts for the car. Unfortunately. That was a realistic option for getting bodykit parts or carbon stuff for the 86 in Europe.

Do they take actual exhaust gas measurements for their testing or is it just plugging into the OBDII port? Most states here now just plug into the computer and if it says the system is working properly you get a pass. I have brought cars with big choppy cams, no emissions equipment, running a tune on E85 and passed IL emissions testing because the computer says "all is good".
If things are that strict there you might be better off just gutting out the innards of the OEM muffler. It will look all as stock as stock can be but sound better.

Actual test, they measure the gasses coming from the exhaust. They rev the engine to redline for 3 seconds.

So if all you replace is a catback, which does not touch any of the emissions related equipment because it is located in front of everything that will be replaced and there are no Db limits, you still need a certificate..? Obviously a simple muffler change has zero effect on exhaust gases so Im confused why they would need proof of anything? Swapping a header or front pipe makes sense to need documents showing that the parts comply and meet some standards, but everything rear of that makes no difference in any way towards air quality.

Unfortunately yes, no certificate = red stamp.. 😐
Same for bigger brakes for example. Window tint is prohibited. You don't see many modded cars around here for obvious reasons.

Here in Aus, window tints are okay as long as they allow 70% VLT. You can’t tint windscreens. (We are the skin cancer capitol of the world so they allow it). Wheels we only allow widths 1” wider than the widest the manufacturer specifies as an option in most states. Offsets can be changed by no more than 12.5mm. Spacers are totally illegal. Exhausts. you seem to be a bit to get away with quite a bit provided you don’t go antisocially noisy…but don’t even think of going cat-less…the fines are MASSIVE.

When you guys speak of "legal" do you actual mean the emissions testings or the general idea or theory wether or not the part is "legal" to use because of stupid EU bureaucracy?
Since the axle back exhaust sound really nice with this generation it's an easy and cheap way to get some proper sound out of the car without getting issues with emissions.

In my case I prefer TÜV-approved and No Police Problems.
But if It looks like OEM and the car is not common, maybe no one of them care? :ROFLMAO:

Because of regulations for emissions.
It gets the necessary temperature in the catalysts faster than the normale idle Mode.

In some old cars with Euro 1 you could get kits for doing this cold starts to get Euro 2.
But the nasty noise and sometimes the wear aren't Worth this. Otherwise in some cars the Cold start is the best noise you can get :D
