A couple threads from the New Nissan Z sister forum I thought folks might find interesting. Nissan has finally announced official pricing in the U.S. and Canada. As expected, it slots neatly between the 86 and Supra.

The embargo also broke today on first drives of the Z and the best summary I saw so far (can't remember who it was from), was that it was way better than the 370Z but not as fun as the GR86!

I had a feeling it would play out this way -- at least $40k for the base, which will probably end up being around $45k in most markets as the bloodthirsty dealers do their ADM and 'special package' thing. No doubt even the base one is much faster than a GR86, but how much of that speed can you realistically use on the street in most circumstances? Don't get me wrong, it looks like a great package, but I don't find it as compelling as the GR86, especially when you mix in the value equation.

I see most people saying they would just go for the Supra manual for a few thousand more at that point, and I agree entirely despite liking the Z quite a bit.

The chassis/trans (sans 9spd AT) is 14 years old and the engine is like 10yrs old iirc. It's a cool car, but that's a lot relative to the Supra's much newer chassis and drivetrain and it handles far better than a 370z.

I love that they made it and do really enjoy the interior and exterior, but I'm happy with my GR86 and would move to the Supra if I was going upmarket (gf is going from Hakone to A90 for instance). That said, I'm eyeing the GR Corolla for a couple years down the road truth be told...

I think this car looks fantastic and the price point was where I predicted it would fall. I think 50k is a tall order for the good one and I know people shit on them but the Supra has really grown on me. Now that both are "out" I think if it was my choice, I would rather have a Supra (even in the Auto... yes). Curious to hear what others would consider if you were in this price range in this market - 45-55k. I think nissan really needed this car though, it really restores some dignity to a brand that has become an afterthought in the performance world over the last decade.

As a BMW fan, I like the Supra. And the B58 is the best I6 in production today so I really don’t mind it in the slightest. It’s thing that always irked me was no manual, so I’m glad the Z knocked some sense into
Toyota from there. Plus the Supra is lighter and smaller vs the Z. And there is a lot of headroom in that engine.

On BMW boards people joke the new Supra is the best Z4 BMW’s ever built 😂

Apparently the 40k base Z would affect the 4-cyl Zupra sales with simple but gorgeous design and loads of power. However, there are still problems including the ancient chassis mentioned above, as well as the amount of hard plastics inside. I used to think the Hyundai N models have the cheapest interior, but the Z looks even more horrible in the video.

I agree with the base Z beating up on the 4 banger Supra. Imagine a BRZ/STI or GR86 TRD instead - I think those would both outsell the heck out of the 4 banger Supra and probably the base Z if they could sell it with ~320hp or so. H6? Stock supercharger? Turbo? Electric assist? The options are endless

The Performance does come with forged, staggered wheels and bigger tires also. Adding those yourself would be at least several thousand $$$s. I'm not trying to defend the $10k upcharge, but I don't think you can just dismiss the wheel/tire package out of hand.

In any case, $51k for the top Z, which is the one to buy if you want the capability straight out of the box, is tough to justify when you can get the top GR86 for around $32k. I could afford whichever Z I wanted, but still won't pay that much for what is essentially a toy. $32k on the other hand...

I doubt they'd notice on a normal basis. But if you had major powertrain issues and they combed through your car to see an LSD when your VIN shows the car didn't come with one from the factory, then strap yourself in youre going for a ride.

The variable however is not all dealers are the same. Sometimes they'll turn a blind eye and help you get the issue fixed under factory warranty, others may be all too happy to throw your ass under the bus.

One tip that I can give you all is find the best service department that you can and find the best service advisor in that department. They are the point man between you and the manufacturer.

One of the dealerships that I bought my new car from said that even just throwing Wheels on the car will void the entire factory warranty. No ifs or buts, straight up clarified that your entire factory warranty will be voided. Guess where I don't get my new car serviced at?
