WRX Caliper Swap

19168 Views 146 Replies 28 Participants Last post by  Alexjg.fit
Looking to do a caliper swap on my 22.

I've seen folks do it - JW about the parts. I've actually seen people get them on amazon for around 130 a set for the fronts.

Wondering - Also what pads I should get, also stainless lines. And the rears also I'd like to do.

Does anyone have part numbers I can reference? Thanks!

This route can save some money for better looking calipers when compare with stock, but it’s still old school looking vs brembo. Moreover, I doubt performance wise the WRX kit is as good as Brembo or other reputable brands. To me, it’s not worth the money and effort.
They are actually the same caliper that came on the R32 Skyline GT-R and Z32 300ZX TT (different mounting), so they are definitely old school but were cutting edge for the early 90s. Performance wise, they do offer benefits but it's nothing crazy. As I have stated before earlier in this thread, they are 4lbs lighter per caliper, provide a much better pedal feel, and make pad changes easier. But Brembos and other modern performance kits are on another level, and as they should be as the swap to front WRX calipers alone is $250 vs thousands lol.

Just depends on goals and what you have to work with, like anything else.

I ran the costs for the whole setup doing this and I could create it for $2.25k, but I don't have the time. Or you could just flip the bleeders and take the 5.5% bias shift for $1850.
I'll be doing this, I don't track the car anymore lol

@BlyatRZ, I actually looked into this more and was able to get the number down to $1200 for everything brand new lol.

$452 F/R rotors (centric blanks)
$400 pads and clips (OE Brembo)
$365 F/R calipers (3rd party)

Do you have links for those? That is quite the price.

You're giving away trade secrets! Lol!

Just kidding, you can def get the calipers cheaper and just not bother with the machine work.

Not perfect, but I think they will look decent once on the car...

Anybody have a link to the pads? I bought the calipers linked at the beginning of the thread for 06-07 wrx limited and just want to make sure I'm getting the right pads. I've run into conflicting info in my searches and hoping someone who has done the swap can help me out. Thank you!
Does anyone have a good link for vinyl GR decals for these? I'm going to pair them with Stoptech Sport pads, hopefully those will be good for my HPDE later this year paired with Motul 660
vinyl will not survive a track day :) Stencil and hi-temp paint.. maybe.

Good to know! Maybe I'll just leave them plain for now then

Vinyl will be fine, just clear coat over the decals...

Always clear over them, but high-temp vinyl would be best if not using a stencil.

Mine are officially off! Some rock chips in the paint unfortunately, but everything else is in good shape.

I was going to order some of these sheets to apply on my Wilwood calipers, and just to have in general. There has to be some combination that will work perfect with the WRX calipers.

I ended up leaving the Wilwood logos on mine, still want to order a few sheets..

I ended up ordering these though for my Corolla, same calipers as GR Yaris. Putting here for anyone that ends up with some caliper with a larger face that they want to dress up:

Anyone running these with 17s? I assume they'll clear as it looks like plenty of room (honestly, looks about the same dimensions as the stock sliding caliper), but didn't want to buy a set of 17s with tires only to find out they don't clear 🙃
