WRX Caliper Swap

Looking to do a caliper swap on my 22.

I've seen folks do it - JW about the parts. I've actually seen people get them on amazon for around 130 a set for the fronts.

Wondering - Also what pads I should get, also stainless lines. And the rears also I'd like to do.

Does anyone have part numbers I can reference? Thanks!

Why would you need to swap them?

I like the way they look. My build is mostly show. The basic cheap calipers kill the look of the car and from what I recall they arent too expensive.

In that case, might look for the BRZ 1st gen oem calipers. I think they are direct bolt on for gr86 steel knuckles, but you need to do research on brz's aluminum knuckles. On another note, not sure if the sti calipers will fit, if the bleeder nipple is pointed down then it's a disaster waiting to happen.

These are not inexpensive or cost effective options, you're looking at around $2,000 for a full set and still need to buy new pads / rotors. The WRX 4/2 pot brakes are much less expensive.

It was me, I did the swap using calipers off Amazon.

Parts:
Front Calipers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B082MK9LNH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Rear Calipers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09J8FRG8C/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Rear Caliper Adapter Bracket: Torque Solution Rear Brake Caliper Adapter Subaru Impreza / WRX / Legacy / Forester / BRZ / FR-S | TS-SU-318.2

I got PowerStop pads from Rock Auto, Motul RBF600 brake fluid, red caliper paint and 2k clear, plus some Subaru decals to go on them.

Install:
Fronts bolt on, used the stock lines, absolutely no issues.

Rears you have to grind down part of the knuckle to get the adapter bracket to seat properly. Not a big deal nothing substantial or life altering. They look great and work great, I could care less about the minor change in brake bias this isn't a time attack car.

Lol I forgot the cost in this equation. Since I came in with the track car focus mind. Now I figured it'd be much for OP.

They're still a worthwhile upgrade especially when retaining stock rears to leave the bias alone.

4lbs lighter per caliper, stiffer, better pedal feel, easier to change pads, and they (subjectively) look way better. I paid $150 for the calipers and bought all the OE clips and pads for like $110 iirc.

I've had mine on since May timeframe.

Where did you get the decals? Any photos?

I got the decals here, worth the wait from Australia.

This is making it very hard to not rebuild my brake system again.

Any idea what the brake bias is compared to stock when doing just the fronts and/or with the rears swapped as well?
You can start by comparing piston area - floating caliper, divide by two since move on both sides. WRX does have larger pads. Maybe wider range of compounds?
Bias with just fronts is identical to stock (CSG confirmed this several times over the years). With WRX rears, it shifts the bias forward by IIRC 5%, but you'd have to search on that other forum to confirm.

Nice, right on.

@DylanJZA @BlyatRZ Do either of you guys happen to have a parts list or a link to where one may be referenced for everything that is needed to perform the conversion besides the calipers themselves — are there any additional clips/small parts, etc. that are neccessary?

I just ordered these calipers from Amazon earlier tonight and it looks like they come with all necessary hardware, including the pad slide pins, clips and even the banjo bolt washers. It’s actually a bit cheaper to order them separately than as a pair for the front calipers. Here’s the ones that I ordered:

I do have a question for those that installed these calipers on their GR86/BRZ: will factory rotors work from the GR86/BRZ or will I need to also buy 2006-2007 WRX rotors as well? I also ordered Hawk HPS pads to go with the calipers.

You re-use the stock rotors, they are the same as WRX rotors. They do come with all of the hardware, I just HIGHLY suggest getting a better quality set of pad retaining spring clips. I first used the ones that came with the calipers and after hitting the brakes one time the driver side flew off into the road. The ones that came with my pads were much much better.

Let us know if the rears come with all included hardware. It looks kind of unclear.
