Who in Australia has ordered the 2022 BRZ

I ordered mine as a manual in Magnetite Grey, with the dealer yesterday after sorting out the trade in.
I went for the Coupe as the "S" level only adds heated front seats and leather seats which to me was a waste of money.

God I hope they got a manual, but I am expecting an auto otherwise anyone without a manual license won't be allow to drive it. Is every state the same as NSW and have an "Auto Only" Driver's License if you don't pass the test in a manual?
In South Aus, there is no auto/manual license. But after 21 in most states, the full license gives you rights to drive a manual again if you didn’t have it before hand. This should not be much of an issue, the new BRZ/GR86 is beyond the power to weight ratio limit for P-plate drivers anyway.

Weird they got Autos for the demos then really unless they are expecting most buyers to want auto? Yuck
I think it might be to do with all the manuals they need to sell as that’s the most common option.
I drive a dual clutch Clio iv rs at current which I basically drive like a manual with auto clutch pedal. That transmission speeds through gears quickly and with lots of noise and rev matchings on downshifts, so I’ll be able to make a good comparison with it if I find myself test driving the auto GR later this year. I’ve ordered a manual GR premium still, I miss shifting the gears myself a 100 percent.

I spoke to City Subaru here in Brisbane today and was told an interesting tidbit - they don't think the 2022 BRZ is P-plate legal here in QLD. >130kW/t is considered high powered, and by my calcs the 2022 brz clocks in at 132.8kW/t.

I'm going to see it tomorrow at the launch event, keen to see it in person.
This is true, most states this new model is not P-plate friendly, it change the demographics of who will own this car a little.

I know the people who run Autolinc, they are just about to start a 86 drift build. I guess take the new brz and test fit stuff out.
I like manual wipers, I’ve had 4 different cars now with auto wipers and they always need overriding. Auto high beam should be banned, the moment you are on a country road and there is a bend ahead the auto high beam function struggles to pick up cars coming in the other direction as it’s not just straight down the road as such.

I still post now and then on the Oz Renault sport forum. I sold my modded Clio iv to make way for the GR86 purchase later this year.
From you responses, you clearly care a lot about what others think.

I can tell you now as someone that didn't care for gen 1s and still can't tell them apart, this is how 99% of the population sees these:

The first Gen cars, I did actually have a hard time trying to pick which version was which from a distance on the road. It was generally only obvious closer up. I think Toyota and Subaru have a done a better job giving each car a more unique looking front end on this version at least.

Although from side on or from the rear, they are identical still.
I'm going to start the online order thingi this afternoon, do you have to go into a dealer at any point once you do a deposit online?
I work for Boeing, its like that simpsons ep when they come to Australia and have the special toilet where the water spins the other way. Their VPN is like that lol.

I’ve put my order in online and paid the fee, didn’t ask for any special conditions or finance so it should be approved next week hopefully :).

I got the confirmation call from Sydney, my production date will be Feb 2023, est in Aus, around late April. I asked on the phone, have you been a little busier than usual yesterday and today. The person replied, well yes we have with the BRZ orders. I then mentioned GR86 mess with manual sale prices, they replied, well that explains it, we just sold a stack of BRZ’s, everyone of them a manual!

When I called Subaru Australia yesterday ( Thursday) they said the production date is January and ETA of delivery is by end of march 2023. It’s really surprising that people have filled the whole February slots within one single day!
So if Toyota come out and say they didn’t have many cancellations next week, we can call bullshit.

There’s one factor missing from that poll, were they buying auto or manual. The auto pricing is much the same as the BRZ, no need to cancel there as such.

BRZ manual prices will be just fine, as there will be hardly any manual GR86’s at the current rate.

These cars have hillstart assist I think too.
Rules change a bit, I grew up in Melbourne. P-platers either sat a manual or auto test. If you wanted to drive manual on p’s, you required to sit the manual test. But, once on full open license, you are free to choose manual even if you did not sit a manual driving test. I live in SA now, there’s no separation of manual or auto licenses at all.
The used car market is somewhere I would look if I had no daily car and needed something right now. It’s painful, there is maybe less coming to market as so many would be sellers are driving old cars waiting a year or more to get a new car currently. Australia’s market is a little broken.
