While on the hunt for GR86 info after todays debut, I came across this listing for a "GR Hot Hatch" under the Upcoming Vehicles listing.
It links to this page that still keeps you on the Toyota USA site: 2021 Toyota Hot Hatch | Toyota Official Site
Yeah, sneaky how they did it, showing a picture of the GR Yaris - but if you read all the text ...
GR Yaris dominated the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon, stirring up an outcry in North America over its absence.
And it's easy to see why. A radical hot hatch, GR Yaris is equipped with an all-new 268-horsepower, 90 turbocharged 3-cylinder engine; a rally-derived GR-FOUR All-Wheel Drive system; and a track-proven suspension.
It's the same engineering that helped to make TOYOTA GAZOO Racing a dominant force in the World Rally Championship.
While GR Yaris isn't coming to the U.S., perhaps it's time the U.S. got a Toyota hot hatch to call its own. One that continues to push the boundaries of performance. And one that can only come from TOYOTA GAZOO Racing. Are you with us?
It does play into the GR Corolla rumors going and this is one of the latest I've seen:
"The Toyota GR Corolla was originally expected to break cover in September 2021, with sales to begin shortly after, but new intel suggests the high-performance hatch and wagon may not go on sale in Japan until mid-2022. ... Toyota has also trademarked the GR Corolla name."
