Toyota GR86 0-60 Time

Since we should expect a new turbocharged 2.4L boxer 4-cyl engine for the GR86 with around 260 horsepower, let's talk about about how fast we think this new car is going to be!

For reference let's look at the only sports cars in Toyota's lineup: the current 86 and the Supra.

The current 86 (2.0-liter boxer 4-cyl engine) produces 205 horsepower and can go from 0-60 in 6.2 seconds with the manual transmission.
The new Supra (turbocharged 3.0 liter inline-6 engine) produces 335 horsepower and can go from 0-60 in 3.8 seconds with its automatic transmission.

My guess is that the new Supra is going be able to hit 60 mph somewhere in the low 5 second to high 4 second range. It's going to fit in a sweet spot between the current 86 and the Supra.

What does everyone else think?

Looks like this is definitely confirmed

"Zero to 60 times have dropped from 7 to 6.1 seconds for the MT and from 8 to 6.6 seconds for the AT."

That's significantly faster, especially on the automatic transmission.

Does anyone know if the AT reduced 0-60 times are down to changes to ratios in the transmission, which were quite a bit longer in most gears than those in the manual , or just more power and torque from the bigger engine?

Jason Cammisa tested out the 0-60 of the manual GR86 and was able to get 5.93 seconds from a standing start and 5.63 with a rollout.

Wow I really tought it could make 0-100 km/h in the 5.s but no chance...
Maybe with tuned and headers could get it, who knows... 😌

Abnormally slow times. By far the slowest I’ve seen.

It needs 3* gear to reach 100 km/h, I'm not that impressed with 6,6 secs in a 2022 sport car 😅

Most testers have recorded between 6.1 & 6.3. Their 400m time of 14.7 is around .5 off every other time I’ve seen too. I think they tested the most unhealthy versions they could get.

In the video seem's dry, and he is the best youtuber at launching manual cars I've seen on yt. Let's see what carwow and autotopNL gets😌

This is where most of the testers get it wrong. It does NOT need 3rd gear to git 60mph. The manual hit the limiter at exactly 60 in 2nd gear. So when all you are chasing is times on paper, just let it bang off the limiter. I was only using an OBD device and not a fancy GPS unit, but I have been able to get to 60 in 5.7 several times if I bring it to the rev limit. Driving it how you would in the real world, you will need that shift to 3rd. In that case I can do 5.9-6.0 seconds. Its not bad for what it is honestly. After 60mph is when you start to remember its a 4 banger with 228hp.

yeah but 60mph is 96,56km/h that's why 3 gear is need it. But note, I'm not hating on the car, I'm just not that impressed with the performance for 40k $ (37k€ in Europe) 2022 sport car.
IDK where you got $40k from but its not USD. It starts under $30k and is about $32k loaded up, which is basically honda civic and mazda 3 money these days.

I paid under $30k US for a base GR with the delivery charge and some add ons I didn't want.

I read several tests that rated my Focus ST in the low to mid 6 second range, which made me wonder why it was so slow when looking at the power : weight ratio before I test drove one. As I suspected, it wasn't, it was just dumbass testers probably revving it to redline and dropping the clutch so it wouldn't do anything but spin tires. I got low 5s in mine with a smooth launch on clean pavement from about 1500 rpm and not slamming the throttle open immediately. In fairness, it wasn't easy to do consistently with all that low end torque at such low rpm and variable road surfaces, but only getting mid 6s is embarrassing. Take the numbers with a grain of salt, plus 0-60 is a poor indicator of real world performance, anyway, and has virtually no relation to how fun a car is to drive.

I know here in Europe we live in different world's 😂 but this car is expensive af in Europe due to emission and staff.
If here it cost 30-33k € it would be perfect

I don't think the times are bad for what it is. Attached are the times for 0-180 km/h. The times between 100 km/h and 180 km/h are impressive for this engine in my opinion. Compare them to other vehicles in the same price range.

Those are definitely among the slowest times I have seen for this car. Maybe that was a base model on the junky tires. I think I bested that 0-60 and 1\4 mile time on my 1st attempt.

Lol, my AT does mid 6s without even really trying (it is auto after all), and we know the MT is rated at least .5s faster if not more so... driver mod needed perhaps.

If you think that even better times can be achieved, i'm even happier. I think that you can keep up with turbo hothatches. Most of them at least, if both are stock.
