I really wonder how would electric sport cars deliver torque. I feel like instant torque can overwhelm the tires in corners.

Feels way too early... for a car only just introduced around 2020, I'm not sure if I'm very excited for this.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it" - that's how I feel towards the B58 engine.

ESC and traction control systems can operate much better with electric motors.

That's a good point. But I guess I just like to control the slip angle with my feet other than computers' interventions.

I'm sure it can be managed, since formula E is a thing

The GR86 will be a hybrid according to the article

The 1.6L turbo, which produces 272ps in the GR Yaris, is further improved in power performance by the hybrid motor assist, and is compatible with fuel efficiency. It seems to be a power unit suitable for next-generation sports.
At the same time, the Subaru BRZ is also planned to be renewed. Debut is expected in 2025.

・Length: 4400mm
・Width: 1800mm
・Height: 1300mm
・Wheelbase : 2600mm
・Vehicle weight: 1350kg
・Power unit: 1.6L, direct 3DOHC + turbo + motor
・Maximum output/maximum torque: 272ps/37.7kgm
・System maximum output: 320-330ps
・Transmission: 6MT/6AT
・Estimated price: 4-4.5 million yen

Very sad day in automotive history. I am so disappointed that all car manufacturers raced to the EV BS. It’s all political and has nothing to do with the environment. Very sad times.

Almost a 3000lbs of a car. I'd imagine the inline 3 will raise the COG a bit, maybe can be balanced out by the battery. Not sure how much of the weight would be batteries tho, essentially it'd be hard to have weight reduction.

It will be Interesting to see a divorce of the twins. Where Subaru can take a totally different approach with the BRZ than GR86. I wonder if they would make a special BRZ and make a comeback at WRC with a short wheelbase chassis.

If it's true that the next-gen 86 will have this hybridized GR 3-cylinder, why would they not throw it into the rumored Toyota/Suzuki/Daihatsu 3-cylinder hybrid MR2?
Sources were saying they'd use a 1.0 3-cylinder from suzuki.

Lol this is coming from the same people saying the GR86 is going to get the 1.6 3cyl.

Don't hold your breath for this or a new set of twins in 2025. A facelift is more likely than a whole new model.

I wonder where they get to those HP numbers.

Aren't EVs notoriously inconsistent with HP and torque specs/charts because of how it needs to be measured differently than ICEs?

Open for correction though, i only vaguely remember this being a topic of discussion when the Tesla truck was announced.

EVs like a Tesla are mated closer to the wheel so HP is likely closer to WHP and there isn't really a crank HP to measure. There isn't really HP/torque chart inconsistencies because HP/torque is measured at peak. I guess you could argue that there's no changing gearing in an electric motor so it does depend but that's semantics.
