Engineering Explained takes a deep dive into the BRZ's new 2.4L engine and they argue why it doesn't need a turbo.

Deep dive into the 2022 Subaru BRZ 2.4L Boxer engine. This is a naturally aspirated version of the 2.4L turbo coming out of the Subaru Ascent. In this video we'll look at how it stacks up versus the previous BRZ engine, discuss why it's a good decision to keep it naturally aspirated, look at the torque curve, discuss wheel torque, and look into Toyota's D-4S direct plus port injection fuel system, as well as the advantages of such system.

Fantastic video!

Really great info here. I didn't know it had such a high compression ratio.

Also interesting to know the Ascent doesn't use direct and port injection.

13.5:1 compression ratio is great for the BRZ. What I'm excited for is peak torque at 3700 RPM instead of 6400 RPM

Yes for those turbo worshipers I say give the car a chance and drive it. You might just be pleasantly surprised. Also I particularly like both the port and direct injection. Hopefully a more stout and reliable engine then the 2.0 version. Subaru has 8 months to make this right before it goes on sale.
