I have to place a front plate. I bought the Subaru bracket (SOA432L171) and upon opening the package, it stated it needed an additional part (SOA342L180)…
If you look up that “additional part”, it’s just 6 mm bolts, 30 mm in length. Your BRZ has two holes molded into the bumper. If those holes have threaded inserts — some in the U.S. do, some don’t — then a 6 mm bolt would fit them.
Unfortunately for those of us in the U.S., those holes molded into the front bumper are spaced for Japanese plates. They’re spaced too narrowly for U.S. plates. There are two dimples spaced for American plates, intended as locators for self-tapping screws.
I didn’t want to put any extra holes in my front bumper. Since my factory didn’t come with threaded inserts, I installed rivnuts and mounted the Subaru plate bracket to those. I also replaced the plastic screw receivers on the Subaru bracket and mounted stainless screws through the backside as studs to hold the plate. Acorn nuts on front to make it look clean as possible.
I just zip tied it on went to sheriffs had it checked off and then took it right off.
Ain’t nobody got time fo’ that!
