Looks like an aftermarket shifter and reverse lockout. Try to pickup an OEM one or find some other aftermarket parts that work correctly.

 

Probably messed up the springs inside or didn't grease it right when they installed it.

I got an aftermarket reverse lockout and it was a pain to install. It still sticks a bit too, like the fitment is only 99% right.

Best bet would be to replace it, maybe get a new short shifter or something.

I have the likewise one. Works great.

Problem is your shifter doesn’t look OEM so no guarantee any of these will work with it.

White lithium grease should fix it. If not it looks like the bore is just too snug around the shifter shaft. A couple minutes with a dremel will solve it for sure.

 

my thoughts as well. hit the stick with some emery cloth and then lithium grease.
