Over the easter weekend while installing the Trac power mirror module I thought might as well replaced the OEM door speakers with minimum amount of time/effort. After some research, bought the Focal IS TOY 165 as it looks like 100% plug and play. I am super impressed with the end result as it is indeed 100% plug and play with very deep bass from the door speakers and the dash tweeters were unreal compared to OEM. I got it for $340 on Amazon plus $21 for the dynamat door speaker kit, 1/2 the cost of the OEMplusAudio base upgrade.
I installed the same system, some dynamat around the speaker hole in the door and foam acoustic that’s self sticking behind speaker, stuck to inner door skin. Much better than stock with separate tweeters in the dash.

Had some Eton speakers installed today and added some Noico padding to the doors. Incredible difference and perfect for what I need, I can't see the need to do anything else for in car sound now that's not going to suffer from the law of diminishing returns massively.

Ended up turning all virtual enhancements off and reset EQ to 0 and it's bang on sound-wise now.

Forgive me for the newbie question, but where does the insulation material go? On the plastic door card, or onto the door itself?

Could you provide the details on which Eaton speakers were used please?

On my car we put it on the inside of the outer skin (behind where the speaker goes) and around the speaker mounting space itself.

Sure mate, it was a set of these - PRS 165.2

Just for information. I installed like following.

Dsp_Puzu C7 in glove box
Speaker_JBL 62cf, tweeter and crossover under oe tweet cover, mid woofer onto door with oe speaker's trim
Amp_Pioneet cheapest A3702-4ch for front
Subwoofer_Rockford p300-10
Supercap_Power acoustic 5 farad
Battery_Optima yellow tip

The sounds is pretty better now than oe system. I can help someone needs installing in Sydney area.

Does the dash tweeter require a harness, as I believe those are 4 pin?

I believe the Focals that turboham referenced don't require an additional harness.
If you use other speakers then you need to buy an additional harness which costs $30+ in Aust. Try looking for the tweeter harness that fits a Corolla 2009-20, or a metra 72-8110. Then you might need a way to install the speaker as the mounting points look unusual.

Got these (3.5 inch) for $70 and I think they gave me an extra splitter (for the pins) by accident, havent had time to do the install though. View attachment 25343
I was looking to build these pair of wires on my own since I figured out the tweeters and the dash speakers were wired in parallel. Where did you buy this set ?! Would be nice for the base to premium speaker upgrade. Thanks !!

Yep no need for any adaptor or wiring harness. The Focal inverted dome tweeters which are thinner than OEM actually clip in tightly in the original OEM location. I stick the dynamat around the door speaker enclosure with speaker cutout stick onto the door metal behind the speaker. Have been playing around with the EQ, bass heavy music at vol 20 and bass EQ +6 , the door mirror glass will begin to vibrate in the housing, and at vol 30 the window switches will rattle. Maybe dynamat the whole door might improve it but that defeats the original brief of minimum cost/effort as this car is not acoustically designed for high end listening and LOL anything over vol 20 is LOUD.
I assume this works on the 2023 BRZ too? Tony

Should work on the BRZ, as they are the same spec in audio.
Does that Amazon version have all the wires/harnesses?
From reading the reviews I got the impression that the "custom" version just has the speakers.
From what I saw from instructional videos on youtube with a Hilux and C-HR, it is just plug and play using the existing factory wire/harness. Mine is arriving in a week or so from Amazon Germany will put it on the car and take a few pics when completed.

I purchased this kit a couple of months ago and confirming it is plug and play. I know close to nothing about car audio and it was a pretty simple install. (ZD8)
