Steering wheel issues around GR badging

Hey all.

Had my car out in my driveway yesterday and gave it a bath inside and out. As I was detailing the interior, I noticed that the leather seems to be coming un-tucked from underneath my GR logo on the steering wheel. Curious if this has happened to anyone else, and how you fixed it? I just tried gently pushing it back under the logo with a plastic trim tool, and again with another little pry tool. I had no luck and was worried I could end up making it worse. The logo was not like this the last time I drove my car a few days ago, so I am not sure how this can even happen.

The YouTube channel Savagegeese said they had a fit and finish issue with the steering wheel in their last GR86 video. I believe their's was replaced under warranty.

Ahh interesting. I figured warranty would likely take care of this. I guess I will be talking to the dealer soon and hopefully they will just replace the wheel.

Looks like Subaru's budget dried up after punching-out the FA24 for that extra 0.4 liters. They must have cut costs on the units that got the Toyota/GR badges.

It's a Toyota steering wheel lol (available in 4-5 other models in JP)

So the BRZ and GR86 have different steering wheels? Or are they both using a Toyota steering wheel?
Both are using the same Toyota supplied wheel in a different config.

Wow! Good to know... My opinion of Toyota decreases everyday it seems.

I still love them, but they make mistakes too, and today's Toyota is unfortunately not the Toyota of the 80s and 90s.

Can confirm, peak Toyota was definitely circa 2000. I've had Toyotas as old as 1980 and as new as 2010 and from what I saw the more recent Toyotas have had engineering/manufacturing cost cutting measures. Example is my 1998 Tacoma had a solid dipstick with an over molded plastic handle, so the handle couldn't break off; newer Tacoma 2009 model year had a 2 part dipstick that felt chinsey and the yellow handle could break off from the dipstick... My 1998 Tacoma dipstick had really nice cross hatching on the oil level check area so it was easy to see what level the oil was at. My 2010 Corolla has a shiny dipstick with no crosshatching on the tip and I actually had to scuff it up with sandpaper to be able to read the oil level effectively. Other cost cutting measures are the injection molded plastic intake manifolds you see on most new cars vs the 1990s and 2000s most Hondas and Toyotas were made with really nice cast aluminum intake manifolds.

Newer is not always better.

I have noticed lots of new noise coming inside GR 86 , from most likely loose plastic parts , I am very surprised that the build quality it so poor , being that it is a Toyota and built in Japan 🇯🇵 however it now has almost 32000 kms on it and the engine still works great 👍!
