Oil Leak and Dealership Nightmare

Head gaskets and timing cover leaks are not common issues (for now at the age these cars are) with these engines at this current time. I can pretty much put money on that the initial issue with this car was the fairly common spark plug tube seal splitting and causing a fairly heavy oil leak. It could be mistaken for something else by an inexperienced workshop, which this place sounds like they are inexperienced with Subaru boxer engines.

I highly doubt this will be a buy back "lemon law" case because this car can easily be repaired correctly and be in perfect working order if a competent workshop removes this engine and re-seals and replaces the gaskets all correctly. Good luck with it.

Pretty spot on. I've already had both sides replaced with new gaskets and seals.

😆
Yup, I’ve had mine done both sides and I’ve seen a dozen other Gen 2 BRZs and other 22+ model Subarus have this exact same problem. It can turn into a heavy leak fast and can be hard to pin point if you have never looked at a Subaru boxer engine before.
