Amsoil SS 5W-30. Doing UOA then may go down to 5W-20.
I agree. Amsoil is always best for Subaru engines.Amsoil SS 5W-30. Doing UOA then may go down to 5W-20.
What do you plan on running afterwards?Castrol magnatec. Discontinued in the USA but I bought enough to last a few years. Lol
Im actually about to start trying something reasonably new that has been puting down some surprisingly good test results. Havoline pro RS. Its a full synthetic that is partially plant based. Sounds dumb and like some eco friendly nonsense but from what I have seen so far it is incredibly long term stable and resistant to shearing. I am going to try it in my SHO and see how it goes. Any oil that performs well in a 3.5 ecoboost can handle anything. Those engines are notoriously hard on oil.What do you plan on running afterwards?
Currently looking at Pennzoil Ultra Platinum or Castrol Edge
You do preliminary testing on your own vehicles? Sacrifice for the greater good... 😂Im actually about to start trying something reasonably new that has been puting down some surprisingly good test results. Havoline pro RS. ACEA A3 or A5 is acceptable according to the owner's manual. All those oils are 30 grade or above. You should be able to find ACEA A3 or A5 easily in Europe.Buying oil for new japanese and american cars in Europe is a nightmare. I was able to find only one decently priced 5w-20 oil from Petro Canada that meets the ILSAC GF6.
Maybe visiting a physical store will give me a better chance of getting such oil because online retailers do not update the specifications?
interesting... No mention of ACEA specs in the EU manual for MY23 GR86ACEA A3 or A5 is acceptable according to the owner's manual. All those oils are 30 grade or above. You should be able to find ACEA A3 or A5 easily in Europe.

Looks like the Subaru and Toyota literature differ here.interesting... No mention of ACEA specs in the EU manual for MY23 GR86
EDIT: just checked the MY22 manual and no mention of ACEA either. I know it probably isn't big deal and any modern full synthetic 5W-20 will do just fine

HTHS >= 3.5
.No way I do the preliminary testing on my own vehicles. I see a wide range of available products come through my company for testing and make several of the modifiers\additives in house. I also get to see some that never make it to market because quite often the genius idea of these eco friendly, or climate sustainable things just don't perform. The catch is that I only see certain oils tested in certain powertrains and its not uncommon to see 1 product perform amazing on 1 platform and not as well on another. Manufacturers all use different materials, alloys, clearances etc, that have an impact on its needs. Just like every oil has a slightly different additive pack to address those things differently. That is why UOA tests will break it down into so many categories with the wear metals and such. They are all different. But in my experience the 3.5 ecoboost is known to simply beat up most oils in a short period of time. It just so happens that I own one so now that I know my preferred product is no longer available (I stocked up on 5w20 for the BRZ but could not locate any 5w30 for the SHO) and I need to try something else the best place to start is with something I know to have impressive test results on other engines. If it performs well on my 3.5 EB I know it should be able to hold up to most things.You do preliminary testing on your own vehicles? Sacrifice for the greater good... 😂
I'm going to assume there really isn't any difference on longevity/performance between Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and Castrol Edge?
If someone had a gun to your head right now for oils currently on the market and you had to choose "the best", what oil would you be choosing from what you know?
Haha I know this is just a neverending debate that has no real answer. Just wanted to pick your brain since you deal with oil at a deeper than 99.9% of peopleNo way I do the preliminary testing on my own vehicles. If threatened at gunpoint to pick 1 universal best oil for all cars (doesnt exist) Amsoil signature series. Its consistent and always good at a decent price.
