Hi What's up, guys!
I am totally new to any performance driving, track, and drifting. But always dreaming about drifting. As I thought, drifting is quite dangerous to myself and anyone near me. Actually, I do watch some youtube videos but I am still quite far from a safe begin. So would anyone provide me some advice?

Best option, find an actual drift event close to you. They usually have skid pad for beginners to practice. Or go to an autocross. They do not allow drifting but you will learn the limits of your car safely.

If you're going to do it on the street, you need to find an empty secluded lot where you can practice sliding it around. Stay far away from poles, curbs, other cars/property. My go to is warehouse area on Sunday. I never stay more than a couple minutes. This is illegal, you will get in trouble if caught. Don't do it on streets around other cars.

Best way to begin, is to begin. Sign up for an event and drive, preferably somewhere that has different courses/layouts for beginners. At our local track, we have a skid pad for beginners, and an intermediate and advanced course. You have to prove your skills before you can move on to the next.

Definitely do a drift event, but don't knock getting a bit of seat time playing Dirt Rally/iRacing/Racing sim with a steering wheel. (*Racing sims, not racing games like "Need for Speed")

It's a lot cheaper than a set of tires and it will teach you some fundamentals.

I prefer to drift in open parking lots. Preferably school parking lots. Just watch out for light poles!
Just a friendly heads-up: Schools have lots of security cameras. The newest systems have really hi-res cameras and pretty damn good license plate recognition features.

(I administer computer networks for school systems.)

Thanks for the heads up. The high school that I drift at is the one I go to. Lol
I haven’t been pulled to the office yet. I will definitely be looking out for cameras from now on. Thank you!
