Hi all, not sure if this is the place to post but there is no thread for aussie/nz 86/brz builds.

Not to cluey with forums, not sure if someone can make a subsection where we can put all our build threads maybe ?

But just thought I’d share my build so far.

Originally ordered a silver with red interior, Was just about to pull out of my order and not worry about getting a new car (didn’t want a BRZ)

Ended up finding this sitting at a dealer 4 hours south of Sydney, Jumped at it as I didn’t want to wait another - who knows how long to get one.

Have owned for 2 months now and @ 3880kms and am just starting to love it even more now

The day we picked it up (20th Of january 2023)

Was a nice 330km drive back home to Sydney, took it pretty easy for this drive as it was all freeway, and that’s about all the “run in” it got

First step on the agenda was a ceramic coating, I’ve never had this done before but safe to say all my cars will now be getting a coating except for my 4x4 hilux.

First up was a decontamination wash, single stage polish, ceramic coated in GTECHNIQ crystal serum ultra (9 year guarantee) topped with liquid crystal v3 sealant

The windscreen was polished with techniq Nanotech glass polish before all the glass was coated with Gtechniq
Clearvision Smart Glass (2 years).

This coating is only available to techniq Accredited Detailers and comes with a 9 year guarantee. It offers ultra-durable paint protection, matchless levels of gloss, surface slickness, swirl and chemical resistance.

The work was carried out at Glow Up Mobile Detailing, in his workshop in Balmain Sydney, I’ll link his Instagram if anyone around the Sydney needs a great detailer to look after their car.

The Car stayed at the GUMD workshop for 24 hours, Drove it 10 minutes back home on a hot clear day and left it in my oven of a garage to bake for another 24 hours to be safe

Shortly after it was time to fix the itch to start with mods, Drove over to Justjap in Sydney and picked up a Blitz oil cap, Blitz shifter and some BCracing coilovers

Got to work straight away, the 39 degree day wasn’t going to hold me back,

By far the easiest set of coilovers I’ve installed,

Looking a lot better now with the height adjusted, but the car still needed more…

I picked up A set of OEM r34 GTR wheels back when I first put my pre order down in April 2022, but the 86 being 5x100 and the GTR wheels are 5x114.3 something was gonna need to be done.

During the time waiting for the car I learnt that the fitment for the car required a fair bit of positive offset, and in my head 18x9+30 with a 25mm conversion spacer wasn’t going to work on the rear of the car. Front was looking possible going off what sizes Americans were fitting on their cars, but would need some camber to help get them “fitted”

Ended up swapping the rear hubs to 5x114.3 ones from a 2008-2014 WRX
(Brand new of course) And using an outback brake rotor from memory instead of redrilling my standard rotors.

Front end is using a 20mm bolt on conversion spacer for the time being till I can work out if a front hub swap is possible or if someone starts making 5x114.3 bolt on hubs again, but here’s how it looks

Ordered some parts from japan, these were the first ones to arrive.

Blitz gauges + ZN8/ZD8 Specific triple gauge mount

Once again I was too eager to install them and the heat wasn’t going to stop me

To install these you have to cut a hole through the top dash trim, this hurt but at the same time it’s a removable piece so it can be replaced later if need be.

I’m lucky enough to have a friend who works for Bowdens, and he hooked me up with a ceramic car care kit + extras

Paint Automotive tire Aluminum can Drink Motor vehicle

Being my first brand new car, I’ve never really been one to wash a car properly and be too fussy, but this car has me a changed man and I’m doing my best to look after it and keep the paint looking nice, so far it’s working out.

First wash since getting the car ceramic coated, the ceramic coating works wonders.

First complimentary service was completed just the other week, and surprisingly they made no comments about the mods on the car so far.

And that’s where I am up to now,

I am still waiting for my kakimoto exhaust to arrive from japan and will probably update this when that has arrived and Been installed,

Thanks for reading

Thanks for the write up, the 86 will also be my first new car so I'm looking in to car care, this was helpful!

If you dont mind, how much did the cermaic coating and maintenance, wash products cost?

Thankyou, Appreciate it :)

The Ceramic coating + Windshield Coating was $1400 all up, $1200 for the coating minus the windshield

As for the wash products, as said I have a friend who works there so I got a 60% discount luckily,

my recommendation would be go onto the bowdens website, and check out the “ceramic car care kit”

is $750 or a little cheaper from memory but that comes with everything you need to start off with

$1200 sounds pretty good. if I had know that was the price I might have got it done.
Instead I did it myself and used a ceramic sealant by Megiuars. I like cleaning and waxing my own car so I don't mind, but I think I will re-seal it each 6 months.
Polishing is a pain though.

Awesome write up. Well done. I completely understand the mentality of "I couldn't wait for x, so I ..." I finally got my silver car last Wednesday and installed Greddy hood struts on the weekend. I'm also sitting on my AWE Touring exhaust (Thanks Jappy!) waiting for ... I don't really know what. I kind of want to wait until I can rev it out to redline to be able to get more of a comparison between stock and new exhausts but my patience has limits and I'm probably going to just swap it out early. Anyhow enough about me. Loving the build pics and story. Keep them coming.

Nice! Looks ace, front number plate looks terrible though :ROFLMAO: do you guys not have a holder that suits the Oz sized plate?
Never noticed this tbh until you’ve pointed it out and now it bugs me haha.
but here in Australia, in New South Wales we have quite a few styles and sizes of plates you can order,
looking at the plate bracket, they make it to suit the standard issue ugly yellow ones, thankfully when I got the car it came with these black and white ones which normally cost an extra $99 or so ontop of registration and are slimmer than the standard ones.

I’ve got “import sized” custom plates on my other car which I am going to swap onto this car soon and they are the same size as a Japanese number plate which we can get to suit our imported cars so that should fix the plate promblem up nicely, ideally if it were up to me I’d run no front plate but that can come at the cost of a couple hundred dollar fine and some demerit points unfortunately
