yeah, thats a good point. I'd say my manifold weighs about 15lbs or so if I had to guess.

So, that puts us at ~40lbs overall.
Yep. And a small turbo like the GTX I posted is more than enough for 99% of builds that will be done on these cars. Leave it internal gate and low/rear mount it and make 500hp for ~30lbs that’s primarily low and behind the axle.

HKS is working on a 2.5l short block that could be purchased, when that is gonna come to market who really knows. I would say it's possible, but it's hard to say at this time what would need to be clearanced if anything. The FA platform doesn't have any factory 2.5l options so I'd wanna say it wouldn't be a drop in.
I also see a product on their page named "capacity up" that is currently in development.

Sounds like the same thing they did for the FA20.

My preferred trade-off in the vehicle concept stage would be keep the NA FA24D but lose the back seats and shorten the wheelbase 10 inches.

Not arguing with your figures as i've not anything to put on a scale. Why would a Supercharger kit add 60lbs over a turbo if both need an intercooler and similar sized housing/blades.

I mean, the centrifugals like the HKS and Jackson shouldn't weigh really anymore that what was proposed.

The roots style kits though? Well, the blowers themselves are heavy, plus the aluminum intake manifold adapters, heat exchanger etc.

Found a post that shows this, although I saw some other posts indicating the Edelbrock weighs a bit more than that but not by a lot. So like double the weight lol, but still not bad at all imo.

10 inches off the wheelbase would make it snap around like crazy.

I would like 300lbs off the car and all of that off the front half.
ZD8/ZN8
Wheelbase: 101.4 inches
Weight: 2835 lbs.

ND (MX-5)
Wheelbase: 90.1" (-11.3 inches)
Weight: 2339 lbs. (-496 lbs.)

Exactly this. It entirely depends on how you go about it. Roots vs centrifugal.

Also, even centrifugal SCs require a bunch of extra bracketry and tensioners, idlers, etc that a turbo does not. A lot of the kits utilize cast piping as well which is heavier than needed, but cheaper to produce. Although I am a sucker for nice OEM+ style cast parts.

I like the back seat.. if it didn't have backseat i'll go for a corvette :)
Bigger & heavier? Not my priorities.

The back seats cause the doors to be longer (harder to ingress / egress) not to mention heavier.

That's OK.. v8 power and sound and it goes and it turns too. AND better gas mileage. That's a lot of wins. :p

+400 lbs, 2x hp, 3x torque. Easy math in my book :) What's a 2018-ish grand sport go for now-a-days?

Power = weight because everything is bigger to support it. I prefer “added lightness.”

Its more like an extra 600lbs for a grand sport. You’re still looking at over 60k for them. I know, because i was looking about a year and a half ago, and they are still about the same.. or more.

And you will not get better mileage trust me on that. How do i know? I had a 99. Sure you’ll get similar on long highway trips, but not in normal driving. Not by a long shot.

They are fun, i love them, don’t misunderstand. But as fast and fun as they were, you can still feel the weight fighting you.

Double the money or more, for a very different experience. A lighty used GT with track package will follow a brz anywhere and sound good too, but it's a completely different feel. And that costs the same as a BRZ.

I laughed at the better mileage comment, seeing as how its not even close as is. But a properly tuned turbo 4 cylinder is one of the most efficient things you can drive with a properly matched turbo. You will also typically see a very small improvement in mpg when driving normally due to less pumping losses and better air density.
