I wonder if there is enough room in the block to replace the crankshaft with a 3.55 mm increased stroke. That would bring the displacement to 2.5 liters. I know that would require a re-tune, but it would also increase the H.P. above 250 and further increase torque. I believe the factory induction components should still be sufficient to feed the added volume.

Then again, would a current production Subaru 2.5 liter crankshaft fit the bill. Or would our induction and and long block components fit on a 2.5 liter short block?

HKS is working on a 2.5l short block that could be purchased, when that is gonna come to market who really knows. I would say it's possible, but it's hard to say at this time what would need to be clearanced if anything. The FA platform doesn't have any factory 2.5l options so I'd wanna say it wouldn't be a drop in.

I doubt it’ll happen, but I’d be all for an FA25 (or FA26) on the next gen. Having driven the 2.0L first gen and this 2.4L second gen, the bump in displacement and torque make a nice difference, especially for daily driving. Would be ideal if they could maintain 100 hp/L to maintain the rev happy nature of the engine, peak power around 7000 rpm.

Just for shits and giggles since I have it sitting here for another project. GTX2867R Gen 2. 550hp capable turbo. A whopping 10.4lbs. The plumbing may be another 10lbs at best, and 5-10lbs for an intercooler.

Good luck adding any appreciable amount of power for anywhere near the weight. Nitrous would be the only way to come close.

The entire turbo kit on my 1JZ weighs about 50lbs (manifold, turbo, wastegate). Piping, FMIC, and BOV are probably another 15lbs max. So, I'd say 65lbs.

My turbo is also ancient and pretty heavy due to that so... It likely weighs at least double the one shown above lol.

EDIT: Just checked and mine weighs in around 25lbs, so yeah, 55lbs overall is a very realistic figure for a modern setup.

Not all of that is additional weight though. The manifold for example is replacing a header.
