I was curious about the brake master cylinder flexing under heavy braking. Master cylinder braces look cool, but surely there’s not that much flex in a new car.
I set up a camera to film the firewall as I stomped on the brakes as hard as I could.
With the eye of faith, if you squint there’s a couple of mm deflection (ignore the bigger deflection of the vacuum hose).
Does this matter? Probably not. I don’t know how to relate a possible small deflection to brake pressure loss, and brake pressure loss to “feel”. It seems plausible that a good driver might notice the difference a master cylinder brace would make. I doubt an ordinary schmuck like me could tell though.
Will I fit one anyway? Maybe. As I said, they look cool, and the placebo effect is equivalent to a real effect for the purposes of “feel”.
