Master Cylinder and firewall flex under braking

I was curious about the brake master cylinder flexing under heavy braking. Master cylinder braces look cool, but surely there’s not that much flex in a new car.

I set up a camera to film the firewall as I stomped on the brakes as hard as I could.

With the eye of faith, if you squint there’s a couple of mm deflection (ignore the bigger deflection of the vacuum hose).

Does this matter? Probably not. I don’t know how to relate a possible small deflection to brake pressure loss, and brake pressure loss to “feel”. It seems plausible that a good driver might notice the difference a master cylinder brace would make. I doubt an ordinary schmuck like me could tell though.

Will I fit one anyway? Maybe. As I said, they look cool, and the placebo effect is equivalent to a real effect for the purposes of “feel”.

Pads and fluid 100% if you're going to push the car hard.
I just wanted to chime in about the MC brace. I added one on my 1st gen and I definitely noticed a difference under hard braking. I wasn't expecting much but was surprised at how hard braking felt much more confident. For the price and ease of install, I highly recommend it. I still have my brace but just haven't gotten around to throwing it on my 2nd gen yet.

it's noticeable, especially on older cars (can be as much a 1/8" deflection from experience on 80s/90s cars). But I fitted one of the GR86 when I swapped to WRX 4 pots, and it still made a difference (possibly due to shorter pedal stroke and more effort).
