There are zero reasons to get this car in an auto, and a million to get it in a manual.
Auto sports cars shouldn’t even exist, it’s a literal oxymoron.

False. I literally know a guy without legs that drifts a manual vehicle. Not just drives, but participates in motorsports at a high level. The OP gave reasons that number > zero.
Put down your bible.
That’s a simple one, most of the people that purchase said cars aren’t enthusiasts. They’re just filthy rich. You better go tell Lamborghini, McLaren, and most other supercar builders the news because they don't seem to agree with you.
It’s quite simple, really, but I wouldn’t expect an auto simp to get it. It’s because there are no benefits - nothing to brag or preach about. You are completely backwards
Automatic Transmission owners do not go into MT threads and preach about the benefits of automatic transmissions while simultaneously insulting manual transmission buyers
That is a thing specific some MT owners
I’m not a petty person but sometimes I wish the passive aggressive beta males that troll AT threads would get a crushed vertebra or blown out ACL so they would have to give up the one thing they seem to think mostly identifies them as being masculine – driving an MT car
I never said it was a skill to brag about. I will argue that it makes you a better driver though, thanks to the extra engagement driving a manual requires over your standard appliance. As a person that has been driving MTs for 39 years I can say without a doubt that the ability to operate a MT is nothing to brag about, I mastered the skill in about an hour when I was 16
The skill is just differnet, it doesn't require special knowledge, nor does your abilty to drive a MT make you a better driver
^^This. It’s a shame the majority doesn’t get it.Wrong. Money does not need to be taken by force to pay for a service people need and will voluntarily pay for. The tax-based public works model only makes sense to the mind of a brute, a simpleton, or a direct financial beneficiary of the expenditures.
Saving manuals is 100% one of the best reasons to get one. You can get every boring car under the sun in an auto.Just wanted to ad my 2 cents to the whole discussion. I have an AT Honda (has the same features as the AT GR86- eyesight, lane departure, etc etc.).
I ended up getting the Manual. It is purely a personal choice and the difference is falls in couple of things:
i) If you want a safer ride that is easy to drive, definitely go for the AT (the pre-collision braking, Lane Departure, Adaptive Cruise Control) makes life easy any day. On the other hand, MT will need more focus while driving to avoid all those. The safety features on my Honda has saved me couple of times (those pre-collision braking are strong).
ii) If you wanna save $$ go for MT. It is cheaper, and easier to maintain.
iii) If you can't drive an MT, no point getting it to learn it and try to enjoy the thrill because everyone says so. At the end it just a transmission.
Driving wise, the MT is smooth as butter. I have a 2022 MT 911 and the 6-spd on the GR86 is 100 times better. Add a short shifter and you are in driving heaven. On the contrary, an AT in manual mode will give you similar pleasure of driving the car, with some protection to not harm the engine. If you are tracking it every other week, maybe the manual would be your choice, where every 10th of a second makes a difference to you. Other wise an AT is as good. My FRS was manual, my Miata is a manual and my GR 86 is a manual. Sometimes it is a pain. Other times it is fun. Drive both of them and go for what you like. Buying a manual so that you can save manuals etc etc (naa, don't do that).
Boring car, manual. Every time. Because it’s still less boring than an auto.Which would you prefer among only two options:
- Sporting car, sport automatic
- Boring car, manual
Not in a million years. The last corvette worth buying was the C7.Here is a simple litmus test
Would you trade your 2023 GR86 for a 2024 Corvette C8 Stingray
It isn’t autistic to have driven countless cars including these in automatic trim to realize that it completely kills the experience. And there’s no level of performance or price that’ll sway me. I’d rather beat the piss out of a manual Versa around a track than have a R35 drive around the track for me. Same goes for daily duty as well. That level of automotive autism is funny as hell and explains so much! 😂
Welcome to the internet. This kind of shit talking is what’s great about forums and has been lost by over moderated groups on FB and the like. Brings me back to old days, the wild west. If you can’t hang, that’s on you. Kinda like your auto around a track. 😉On an enthusiast forum, it is the same. What if someone hated Neptune Blue and WR Blue, and every time someone posted a picture of their car in these colors there was some following commentary like, "I wouldn't be caught dead in car with a color that horrible." "I'd never pic that cringy color. Red or dead."
What's the constructive purpose of that? There isn't any. It's just being a jerk and trying to diminish someone else's choices and enjoyment. It's the same thing with the unsolicited, anti-automatic commentary. So, like your MT all you want and extoll its virtues and pleasures. Just stow it with the automatic trashing.
So shut up about it because I don't care that you don't like it either. But I do get sick of you reminding me all the time that you don't like it. Move on.
I don't hate MTs. I might get one someday in the right car. That was just my illustration of what it's like when the roles are reversed. But imagine if you had to listen to comments like that in the middle of some thread discussing the best way to downshift from 3rd to 2nd on the track?
It’s not hard to wait unless you can’t live without instant gratification. Lots of us have gotten just what we wanted.it’s insane how this thread has 16 pages lol. First of all, the car is 90 percent the same no matter what transmission you get and still gets gapped by a sienna. Do you think that minivan driver is gonna be impressed because you had to use your left foot to lose in that drag race? Lol
Second of all, in the US at least most of them are automatic anyways. Chances are, if you want a premium trim in a specific color, it’s an automatic. “Shoulda got a manual” would be more valid if they were actually readily available but they really arent
No one worth having around is leaving a forum because of harmless banter. If they’re that thin skinned we don’t need them around anyways.Ritter
These young immature beta males don’t even know that they are being passive aggressive assholes and due to their current environment no one has probably put them in the awkward situation where they weigh their next words based on their dental insurance
Panda longs for the good old days, but he is too dumb to realize that the good old days he longs for are what gives weak, cowardly beta males a some sort of sense of courage that would quickly fade if he started to run his mouth to the wrong person in a face to face situation
Panda, Cincy and thier ilk think of trolling as a sport but what they don’t know is how detrimental to a forum /group that it can be
For every one person that doesn’t tolerate their bull shit 10 people just leave and take their experiences/knowledge with them
I waited over a year. But I didn’t shop around. Told my dealer what I wanted, Halo or Track bRed Premium MT. Passed on everything else that came along.I wanted a premium Neptune and said any transmission is fine, I actually placed two orders, one for each, just to take whichever came first. The auto came first after four months. Can’t imagine how long I would have waited for a manual but that four months was hard
I’m happy with my automatic btw. I don’t regret taking it
I had driven the first gen enough to know unless they completely botched it, that it would be a better car in just about every aspect, and thankfully that stayed true.what make a car enjoyable for me is heavily based on feel. Do I like the steering, the driving position, the shifter action, the power deliver (vs amount). Because of this, I didn’t order one til I could drive one. In retrospect, that may have been foolish because so many journalists loved it and specifically said they didn’t screw anything up and made material improvements over gen 1, that I should have ordered sight unseen. Especially when you consider (or at least, I consider) this car has no peer, since I intended to daily it and the Miata doesn’t cut it as a daily for me.
since I’ve been a manual only guy for every car I’ve had (save for the first two I bought at age 16 & 17 - then a couple of company cars in my 20s), I see diminishing supply. So where color is concerned, I have my favorites, but generally accept what I can live with. Given our strained posts in this thread - pls know that this is what works for me and me alone. I don’t criticize someone for taking the first transmission available or for waiting 18 months to get exactly what they want. You do you.
but I find that I favor the Toyota a hair more and perhaps it all worked out for the best. Because, had I ordered and waited at first opportunity, it would likely have been a blue brz.
