I've been daily driving my 2022 86 Premium for about a month now and I've finally got a handle on her. And since I got a handle on her I think I'd like to start changing the settings. My first idea is to change the wheel area, namely, the rims, tires, control arms and suspension.

I've found everything I'd want but the suspension. I'm going for a rally/autocross build, but to be honest I'm still new to the scene and don't know much past what people such as yourself will tell me on the internet. And what I get from car meets. I've heard that for this type of build you'd want a inverted absorber/damper, adjustable mounts, strong material and springs, and to stay away from "cheap coilovers". Now, I know this probably isn't the best or right place to ask a question specific as this, but what would you guys recommend for a suspension. The car is still fairly new and there probably isn't much out there as of now (which was the same for the arms), so maybe name brands and examples would be nice.

Thanks you for any comments, suggestions, or corrections to what I know/said.

Well a rally setup and an autocross setup would require drastically different suspension. So I think you need to decide what you’re building your car for and go based off that. You should also ask yourself how much you’ll be doing either of those events, as in what is the percentage difference of use vs daily driving. (E.g. 90% daily, 10% racing) this will drive what suggestions you get for suspension.

Me, I’m using my GR for daily driving. Eventually I’d like to turn it into my new autocross car (previously had a STI I raced), but for now it’s just a fun daily. Therefore, for now, coilovers are mainly for looks and an occasional autocross for fun. Because of this, valving and comfort are mainly focused for daily driving comfort not performance. Based off that, my next set of features are dependability (it’s a daily so I’d like them to last longer), ability to rebuild (cost savings), and customer service. With that, I chose Racecomp Engineer Superstreet 1s. They have a great heritage, great reviews, great customer service, reliable, reliable, adjustable, and cater to daily drivers and occasional weekend racers.

Rally and Autocross... are very different suspension setups. Rally requires quite a bit of suspension travel and good control arms that are beefy and have good articulation. Autocross is going to be much tighter lower speed corners where you're not going to want a lot of weight-transfer; thus stiffer suspension and less suspension-travel overall. If you're barely getting into this... then don't go mod-crazy. Good quality suspension generally means staying away from the China shit... BC, Megan, etc.

For most of the more serious builds and competition stuff I tend to move a lot of Bilstein, KW, ST, Pedders, H&R, TEIN (higher-end), HKS, Cusco, RSR... and then of course... my personal choice, Ohlins.

I'm going to be going with Ohlins Road and Track coilovers and Verus Top hats for the fronts. I think they are a good choice to be very streetable and then have the ability to be turned up for track use. Like stated above find something that is a quality made product and you should have good luck with it.

I just installed Ohlins Road and Track Coilovers this past weekend. I lowered them to the lowest recommended setting. They are super responsive and are not harsh in the slightest. I would go so far as to say it rides better than stock, at this low setting.
