first and most importantly, I am going to have to get the fake engine noise turned back on at the dealer. While I am sure this will be annoying while driving TO the track, when I am on track, at speed with windows down, helmet on - you cannot hear the engine at all! You have to rely on the on looking down at the tach. I am running again this Friday so hope to have this turned back on by then.
Only mods I made were Carbotech XP10 brake pads and Motul RBF 660. They have great bite and never faded. They are loud. Had great confidence in the brakes.
Spring Mountain's Mansell C configuration is 3.4 miles and quick. There are 4 straightaways and 3 of them are long. At the ends of those long straights... I ran out of gear in 4th and would have to switch to 5th... for last little extra acceleration before the braking zones......... on the front straight I would just stay in 4th and not carry as much speed in,,,,this was my first time out and without being able to hear the car, judging/learning these shift points took some time.
I was running with POC (porsche owners club) this is a time trial and club racing event. I ran with PDS (point by) - a "slower" small run group of 7 cars... all were Porsches. They'd obviously blow me away on the straights and I would catch them in the corners... and our lap times were equivalent.
I consistently ran 2:56-2:58 all weekend. I never have been the fastest driver - but consistent.
(as a reference: the Spec Boxsters were running a range from 2:42 - 2:53 (big field of spec boxsters) and the GT2/GT1 cars were running 2:19 - 2:30)
This car needs some suspension - specifically some dampening. There's one particular rough spot and the end of a fast straight and the vibration and shaking was disconcerting..... I like a "softer" feel... so I;ve got some homework to do to find the right set-up.
I'll probably do some 17" wheels and proxies......... and then just track it like it sits.
Overall, I am very happy with the car. Also worth noting, in paddock full of high-dollar GT3, Cup Cars and GT4 Clubsports....... this little GR86 drew a lot of attention.
