Hi Everyone,

I currently drive a 14' BRZ Limited and hope this GR86 will be a solid upgrade.

Toyota/Subaru sort of dropped the ball on power. Fortunately not enough to be a deal breaker. My BRZ performs just find but of course, there's always more to be desired. Even just 50hp more would have done it!.

So far I like everything about GR. Even the name change from 'GT86' to 'GR86' sits well with me. Yeah we lose a lot of history by dropping 'GT' but the GR brand has been pulling off some impressive projects (Yaris, Supra). This new 86 should be equally impressive!

Can't wait!

I like the GR plan as well. So many switches initially. It would be nice to have some solid Toyota branding around performance cars.

Toyota finally seems to be coming together with a cohesive performance branding approach, and Toyota also has TRD for handling packages and performance accessories.
They'd better not screw up the curb weight and steering.

Agreed, if it all of a sudden becomes massive then it defeats the whole purpose of the car.
Hello from England!

Currently in an 19 BRZ and had a 13 86 before. I'm really excited for the GR86! I do like the FT86 platform but have never fallen in love with it. I think the current engine is too low on torque, lacks character and that ruins the car for me IMO although the chassis is fantastic. I want the new one to be a more focused sports car like a Cayman. I'm not into drifting etc. I'm a RWD fanboy and just want a cheap focused sports car that's cheap to run and maintain...

Welcome to the forum @Rascasse .

Have you modified your BRZ at all? Post some pics if you get the chance.

And yea, Cayman rules... but I don't want to pay Cayman pricing for this car

Hi Rascasse! Any particular reason you switched to the BRZ from the 86?

Thanks! No no mods at all. I would like to remove the understeer on my BRZ and have heard an alignment and some camber bolts can do the trick. Far too understeery for me. I preffered my 86's handling balance tbh.

Good question! Didn't want the exact same car again and thought the way Subaru set the car up might drive a bit different. As above though maybe should have gone for FL GT86 lol

I've drive both as well and definitely prefer the oversteer-prone FR-S. I assume the 86 is the same.

Yeah defo although i think the facelift GT86 for the UK at least was more neutral compared to the 13 i had..

I've also been thinking about perhaps changing my car for an FK8 Type R as all the reviews do sound like it'a an amazing drive but something keeps telling me to wait it out for the new GR86 :)

I get what you're saying. Loved the new Type R. Blew me away. The Focus RS was good, but the Type R was just fantastic!!!

However, I think having RWD is just the ultimate.

Yeah i'm a RWD guy always will be but that package sounds so good and i've had hot hatches in the past and they can def be amazing drivers cars. Well FWD manual ones anyway..

I'd say wait for the GT86 and then compare both of them, it doesn't hurt to wait and see what Toyota has up their sleeves.
