Hi to hopefully all future fellow GR86/BRZ owners!

I'm joining this forum as I'd like to get involved from the start of the journey with this generation of cars which from what I've read sound like my ultimate car. Well, for my sort of budget anyway which is why I'm normally against buying cars new but I don't know if I'll be able to resist this new GR86. Especially so as the end of the ICE is nigh so I'll want one of these to hopefully keep forever. I say GR86 because sadly we're not getting the BRZ in the UK due to Subaru's overall emissions so we just have to hope we get at least the GR86..

I was always mega tempted to get a GT86 but the lack of mid-range torque and strained induction sound always put me off. This now finally looks to be sorted on the new twins although I'm not so sure about the fake intake noise of the new BRZ. It sounds really artificial and you can bet the GR86 will be the same but hopefully it will sound ok with it disabled. Time will tell but I really can't wait to find out :)

Welcome @VeeFource!

Will the GR86 be your first sports car or have you owned others and still do at the moment?
Any specific things you want Toyota to do to the GR86?
Hi Apex,

I've had quite a few hot hatches but sports car wise only a Nissan 350Z and currently have a turbo'd Toyota Roadster which I bought last summer to find out how much I like the mid engined thing and convertibles. Not had much chance to drive it because of lock downs but if I do love it I may end up with a current MX5 if I go back to having one car which would be sensible seeing as I cycle to work most of the time.

Seeing as it looks like Toyota have fixed the torque issue, one thing I'd love for them to do to the GR86 is allow the driver to easily set the volume of the artificial engine noise within each driver mode. It's such a subjective thing, everyone has a strong opinion on it and it should be an easy software tweak to have adjustment for it, so I don't know why it doesn't feature in more cars.

The other thing I'd be delighted with is if they actually galvanised the shell and steel panels. Japanese cars are notorious for rusting out on the UK's salty roads which undermines their superb reliability and residuals. I know it's how they help keep the manufacturing costs down but it puts me off buying one considering I'd want to keep it as long as I can. That's why I also have never gone for an MX5 as they have next to no corrosion protection at all. My MR2 only goes out on dry days so it's not as much of an issue but a GR86 would be my one and only year round car.

How about you Apex, got much on the wishlist?

While we haven't seen any official reviews or anything the new 2.4L engine should solve the torque issue plaguing the BRZ/GR86. Would you keep your GR86 stock or would you want to add mods?
I think pretty stock. I only usually mod cars when there's a design flaw like sloppy gear shifts or lack of interior illumination etc. But I can't see this car having too many issues I'm not a fan of :D

What have you got planned @R-Ozzy?
