Just though I'd share a video of my 2.5" Perrin resonated catback. I've had it on for about 10 months and still love the sound, it's not too loud and you can till hear it in cabin with the windows up. No drone at all for freeway cruising speeds. I'm probably going to add a header eventually which will definitely cause it to be louder.

sounds good, I'm looking for something louder than my HKS L2 - what's your camera mount?

I have the exact same catback and it has a decent drone from 2.5-3k on the AT. I agree that at 70-75mph it doesn't drone in 6th, but above that it starts to reach the above rpm and drones.

That said, it's basically perfection other than that which is why I want to add a hemholtz or j-pipe to kill the 90-100hz.

I have an auto too. There is little drone but I don't really notice it. The road noise is louder than the drone.

Well, either they made different versions, which I've heard they may have or I'm far more sensitive because it's like a 95hz bass hitting lol

Put another way, the road noise pales in comparison lol.

Do you drive in D mostly? It's reduced a ton in that regard because it shifts below the drone unless you floor it, and when you floor it it doesn't drone. I drive predominantly in M.

Im enjoying my Perrin 2.5” as well. Here’s a quick outside video I took of 1st and 2nd from a stop. It really reminds me of an oem+ setup that adds a lot of bass/fullness to the engine sound.

Short interior clip as well.

I haven’t noticed much (any?) drone. I know some people have commented it drones so I drove around a bunch trying to hear it, but I gave up. It gets a little louder around 3000 rpm, but seems more like the natural resonance of the cabin at that frequency. I’d be surprised it’d bother anyone.

I only drive in D for cruise control. Aside from that, always in manual shift. My normal cruise is about 75 which I think is like 2300 rpm or so? Don't remember exactly, but it's not that high.

Same here. Only the cold start is super loud, but everything else just feels like an OEM upgrade. Just enough to make you sound fast.

it doesn't really drone at all on the MT.
One of the other guys who mentioned drone had a MT, which makes me think there’s something else going on like two versions of this exhaust. I could definitely see the AT being an exacerbating factor with drone though.

Out of curiosity, do your tips have the Perrin logo on the top or the sides? Mine are on the sides, like this.

That's a really good question. Mine are on the top!

It was listed as the 17+ version on their website when I bought it. Yours?
Oh wow that might be it. I noticed Perrin revised their tip design at some point, which made me wonder what else they changed. I bought mine in 2013/14 (when I had my FR-S). The older versions must be quieter/less droney.

Well, that's unfortunate lol...

Probably the issue then.

EDIT: Looks like Perrin no longer lists the 2.5" or 3" catbacks for sale anymore.
I just looked at the FS thread for the other guy who had drone with his 2.5" Perrin. Also had the Perrin logo on the top of the tips. I guess that confirms it. Sucks that Perrin changed the design without telling folks what they did. 🤦‍♂️
