Why would the tube need to be replaced? Also, I have seen mention that the timing cover would need to be pulled to remove the tube. I havent been in there yet to confirm.
If thats the case then I wouldn't bother....

Taking another, less tired, look at the parts diagram it seems you are correct. The timing cover would need to come off to get the oil pick up off. Thats absolutely stupid (but somehow makes sense since the oil pump is also in the front cover)

However, at the same time, I don't see Toyota screwing thousands of customers in the long run if this is really that big and widespread of an issue.
They have in the past, why would our car be any different?

Only time they act is when there's a lawsuit or NHTSA forces them to.

I haven’t read the whole thread, but what are the symptoms if the rtv is in the oil? I’ve noticed my gr86 feels slower lately, but I just figured I’ve gotten used to the “power”.

Also the engine sounds like a garbage truck, but I think that’s normal.

Violent engine failure, and the feeling that you are being watched (because the field technical specialist is already looking through your instagram to see if your car has ever been within 100 miles of a road course).

Probably a gradual drop in oil pressure, but unless you’ve installed your own oil pressure sensor and gauge you’ll never know.

There are no symptoms unfortunately. The car will be completely fine..... until it isnt.

The noises, oh the noises. Yeah they do that. When I drive next to people or walls all I hear is that engine clattering away. Makes me laugh every time. I also have a 12\21 build.

I have one installed, but I was thinking today that even if the pressures at the gauge look good if any RTV made its way past the pick up screen and into the oil galleys in the block it could still be problematic. You'd never know until you experienced failure.

I have a 10/21 build date, 13.5k miles (hard miles), and no problems so far.

After the pickup screen, it still has the oil filter to contend with. Based on what i’ve seen, this silicone is coming off in pieces far too large to ever make it past the strainer and of course there is basically nothing that will make it past an oil filter. I haven’t pulled my oil pan yet, but my engine is oozing RTV from all crevices based on an exterior inspection and disassembly of my oil filter showed nothing of concern.
 
I can see it being plausible that there may also be some pieces of sealant being stuck within the timing cover. The cover can be having the same issue as the pan as we know it with excess globs of sealant, if any breaks off in there, what will it do?

Travel and fling around within the cover?
Get caught within the chain and gears and get effectively chewed into small pieces?
Block an oil passage?
People are seeing what's happening in the oil pick up, but who knows what else is going on..

Not trying to raise alarm for people but it's just a thought.
 

177 ppm doesn’t sound too bad per that article from Blackstone.

I’ve never used Blackstone but will give it a shot and see what my first oil change comes back with at ~1,500 miles.
Agree that the 177ppm can be normal for a new engine. I will change the oil again soon and do another analysis. If it is normal, the levels should be dropping.
 
I went to the dealer today and they said the warranty is void if you take off the oil pan. They will borescope investigate on the 17th. I will follow up after the oilpanoscopy.
They literally cannot void an entire warranty for a self repair, unless the self repair causes failure. That would be on them to prove. They can deny the warranty claim if you even tell them that you re-sealed the oil pan, or if you have engine failure and tell them that. But otherwise they literally would not ever know.
 
I went ahead and checked my dip stick and there is in fact small flecks of rtv on the end of it. I really had to pick at it to

with RTV suspected on your dipstick I would go straight to the dealer, in person, and tell them what you found and ask them what they recommend. After they make their recommendations (unless it is the following) request the oil pan is removed and everything inspected. If they say it is unnecessary then ask them, nicely, to log in your account that you were there with this service request and get a print out. Smile, thank them and leave.

That’s an interesting blanket statement to make. If only there was a federal law specifically covering scenarios like this, and the language of Toyota’s own warranty was cognizant of this law. Maybe it could even be highlighted in bold so even the dumbest of dealership service employees could read it clearly.

I joined this forum to get info to make a decision between buying a BRZ or an MX-5 and I am glad I did. So much great info here. This really makes me gun shy on the BRZ. Hopefully there is some official TSB/recall initiated to get a handle on how many vehicles are affected and that the issue is corrected for the ‘23 model year.
