GR86 Preorder

Hey everyone! I have been viewing this forum off and on for the past two months and have some news that might be helpful after seeing some of the discussions! About four or five weeks ago I found a Toyota dealership that was able to preorder me a GR86 for a $1000 deposit. I was worried about the car not being widely available with the chip shortages and considering it’s a niche market and few will be produced anyway. A couple days ago my dealer told me that the car was set to begin production this month (August 2021) and that I would need to come down and customize it. Though I haven’t been given a date when I can do so, it will be before the end of this month and the car will likely be ready in November. Keep in mind the car hasn’t been officially released and three other dealerships told me they had no idea when the car would be available and said it would maybe be available next year. I saw this not to brag or anything but to let you all know to do some searching! Some Toyota dealerships are considered to be “high profile” which means they receive the new exciting vehicles before any other dealership. I was lucky to have one of these high profile dealerships near me but before I called around I had no idea. Good luck to all of you and feel free to ask me questions! Not sure what I can add to the car yet but I’m for sure going with Halo White, Premium Trim and yes an Automatic since it will be my daily and the automatic has a manual mode for when I want to have fun with it. Good luck guys!

Welcome to the forum @DRFT86! Congrats on placing your order with your dealer! I hope they're right about production starting this month. I'm not sure if we've heard about when specifically it'll start.

Is this your first 86/BRZ? Or have you owned the first gen?

Really appreciate it man! And yes this is my first 86/BRZ, I got my first car which was a 2020 Toyota Corolla LE at 17 and now I’m trading it in at 19 to get my 86. I know at least in the Southeast US Toyota is selective in what dealerships receive their new model cars. Every other dealership around me told me they would probably be widely available early 2022 which means it’s likely if you preordered one you will receive it this November like me. I would say price and everything will release this month as I customize mine this month and will obviously be given a price so if Toyota doesn’t release it I’ll tell you all lol!
Considering Toyota hasn't given a MSRP yet, how much was the offer did they give you? and apparently Toyota not affected by the global chip shortage... there's a post on here somewhere that confirmed that.

They haven’t given me one yet, I get the price once I option it up but I expect the premium automatic to start at around 33-34k and I expect to spend around 38k if they offer a lot of accessories. And yes you’re right Toyota was very smart in outsourcing chips, it’s just some dealerships use this excuse to justify their lack of knowledge.

So you put a deposit on a car you don't know what the final cost is? Aren't you afraid of overpaying? I'm just curious, I've never bought a car before lol. I'll be buying the car next year (2023).

Not really, I have a lot of negotiation room for my car since it’s a 2020 and I should get 20k from it since It has allow wheels, a fiber glass spoiler, and tons of interior upgrades from Toyota. I have also been saving up a lot for a deposit so financially I feel pretty good. Since I’m going to add accessories you can usually gain some leverage with that saying things like “if you add this then I will accept this” and so on.

I really wonder what TRD parts is going to be available for the car. I hope it's not just GR parts. I also hope I have enough I've been saving around 32K hopefully I'll have enough to buy the car right out.
I have a 1K deposit with a dealer here in WA since 1st of July, I'll check with them in a few days to see if there's anything new to report.
They said a couple weeks ago that I was in line with Toyota for initial shipment and that they will charge exactly factory MSRP for my region PNW.
Thanks for posting!

Right on man! And yes you should be hearing some news really soon, what do you hope to be able to add to your 86 as far as accessories go?

Impressive! You’ll defiantly have enough for base and likely premium, and same here I hope it’s as customizable as the BRZ. The 2020 BRZ had over 70 accessories and the 86 only had like 27

I hope you plan on keeping it until the wheels fall off then. Putting that much cash down on a depreciating asset like a car is never a good idea. Especially if low rates can be taken advantage of and that cash can be saved a rainy day fund or to purchase aftermarket parts.

I felt it’s high time I finally take a risk in life and this is it lol. I do plan on keeping the car for at least 10 years which is why I’m getting it totally optioned out and sparing no expense.

I certainly will and hope to possibly keep it as a classic 30 years down the line. Congrats to you man and how do you plan to accessorize it and what options do you hope to see?

Pretty much. I really doubt Toyota will give out low rates on a brand new sports car lol. This isn't a Corolla lol. If I do finance, I'll still be paying more overall.

I wouldn’t count on getting more money for after market things you added to your car. I had a 2001 MR2. I added better speakers, a rollbar, and a wind deflector. I got nothing to make up for the price of those additions

The good thing is that Carvana quoted me at 19,250 and valued my aftermarket accessories. Toyota I’m thinking will match and give a little more since I have about $500 in OEM Toyota accessories and I’m of course buying a car from them. Fingers crossed though!

Sorry, I somehow missed that you have a 2020 to trade. I have a 2013 Prius, and Carmax will give me $10,900. I’m really hoping I can swing a Supra 2.0, but if not, a Premium GR86. The markup on the Supras are insane. There’s a dealer in Orange, CA that has a used 2021 2.0 with 10,000 miles at about $52,000, which is about where the 3.0 with the 6 cylinder starts. That’s robbery. Hopefully, the GR86 won’t be marked up like that.
