Deleting the rear seat on a 5 door hatch is absurd. Cool car overall though.

 

Don't get me wrong, the pricing is very competitive. However, I'm glad I went the GR86 route because its more than I think its worth, especially without the performance brakes as a standard option. I assume it will be easier to order exactly to your spec than the GR86, but finding a reasonable dealer will be just as challenging.

 

Now if I can only get my hands on one...!! The only question would be if I should dump the BRZ for one, or just have both. 🤷🏻‍♂️

 

The correct number of fun cars is Nb = Na + 1 where Na = the number of fun cars you already own.

i really think the toyobaru is a way nicer looking car 🤷‍♂️. I wouldn’t open my garage every time I walk by to check out the Corolla.

I could. I just wake up everyday wondering if I still want the BRZ or not. Its durability is already proving to be questionable. If I do hang on to it, there will need to be some forced induction which im sure wont make matters any better.

 

Personally, don't like the rear styling but that's my only problem. I'm sure it would be a fun car, and might be a go to if rear seats become a larger priority in the future

 

The removal of the back seats is only for the Morizo edition, which will be limited to 200 cars.
After all the trouble I’ve had with my GR86 lemon, this would be a good replacement, otherwise it looks like it’ll be a VW Golf.

I would get this. It's a more reliable engine than a Subaru and the engine's been running like mad for the GR Yaris for years.

 

Yeah, I have to be completely honest, I have never had a good impression of Subaru and this car has done little to improve my overall image. Thankfully it's enough Toyota to have a little more reliability overall (the BRZ was Subaru's most reliable car from like 2015-2019 for a reason), but that Corolla would be far better and I'd bet money on it even being an FI 3cyl lol.

But what you wont have in an AWD hot hatch is as much fun as you can have in something a few hundred pounds lighter and rwd, especially with how good the steering is in these cars.

My issue is that the GR86 is my daily, and in the PNW an awd turbo hatch is a way better daily in constant rain and snow half the year...

 

To me, today’s hot hatch seems like tomorrow’s Domino’s Pizza Delivery vehicle. 😂

I have concerns about the longevity of the GR Corolla’s drive train. The rear bias is achieved by overspeeding the rear axle which has to wind up the entire driveline. GR Yaris is known for overheating it’s clutch pack and defaulting to FWD when used heavily on track. It’s still not a proper “centre differential” AWD system.

 

Was between the two. Pricing makes sense within the GR lineup, but will be a hard sell to my wife since it's a 'corolla' for that price. Funnily enough if the 86 was that price (insert ADM joke here), my wife would have 0 qualms.

 

I could sell the Corolla to the family easier than the BRZ, which they still see as my ‘toy’. Having said that, BRZ/Gr86 are surprisingly practical as long as you don't have to carry more than one passenger - Costco runs with Charmin and paper towels are not a problem

 

It looks cool. I agree the pricing is steep but that's inflation for ya.

Nah its not even that. I think its a poor design flaw for sure. But thats not what is blowing these motors up. There have been a few money shifts for sure but there are cases of rod knock and blown engines for what appears to be no reason.

 

If the GRC is anything like the GRY that it is borrowing the drivetrain from it will be able to take everything I throw at it and say "thank you sir may I please have another?" AWD is fun in different ways than RWD thats all. You lose the oversteer around corners and smokey burnout abilities. I can always drive wifeys mustang for that, but it is an automatic which loses some of the fun. I definitely want the GRC. I just dont know if I will need or even want the BRZ if I get one. But I would definitely not get rid of it until I know I have a replacement, even though I have other cars.

 

It is all wheel drive so it has to have some kind of transfer case or PTU "power transfer unit" like ford calls them. I did use plural for the other things, but that was really just to stress the point. There is a lot of stuff on the GRC that the BRZ\86 just doesnt have

It doesn’t have a transfer case, it has a permanently driven rear prop shaft driven off the front diff, into a clutch pack. Yep there’s a bit that the 86/BRZ doesn’t have. About 200kgs/440lbs worth.

True as that is, with 300hp it still has better power\weight and gobs more torque.

 

I'm just disappointed that it's not the same homologated GR Yaris, which is the more pure rally car. To me, the GR Corolla is compromised, takes away from the rally input (Tommi Makinen Racing), and makes it more livable in the US. But I guess they didn't want to make this a limited edition product...

Ironic that this $40k GR Corolla is AWD wheras our GR/BRZ Subaru is RWD only. Im just glad ours costs less than the 3 cylinder GR Corolla.

8AT? Engine must be pretty peaky if they need 8 speeds to keep the engine happy.

 

fuel economy would be my guess and maybe the possibility of that trans being used in other applications (not sure there).

 

Depends how they program it, can also make a car accelerate like crazy if they’re close together.

 

To follow up my previous comment, a better term for a piece of equipment specifically designed for a given application is…application-specific. As opposed to say, general purpose / multi-platform / parts bin.

 

They can say "bespoke" or application specific simply by making 1 change to an existing product. Toyota can take the trans out of an AWD Lexus, change the ratio of the reverse gear and call it a transmission unique to the GR cars. There is nothing wrong with that if they are quality parts to begin with. It helps keep the cost down. A transmission built from the ground up to be used in 2 low volume cars isnt the greatest business strategy.

 

That’s just not “bespoke”. It’s a modification of a parts-bin component to fit the application. If you as the individual customer didn’t “bespeak” the details of the specification to the builder, it’s not bespoke.

Actual bespoke is you instructing your Duesenberg coach builder to fabricate specific non-standard features to adapt the standard vehicle to your individual requirements. The term “bespoke” doesn’t apply to mass-marketed anything.
