Ever wonder why the 2.0 Supra exists?

Before the GR86 came out, it made some sense. The more affordable coupe sports car. But now that we have the GR86, I wonder if they will discontinue it. The 86 has more seats, is cheaper, and from what I hear is just about as fast. And of course, it comes in manual. I honestly don't know who the 2.0 Supra is for in 2023.

Who knows, maybe if they axe the 2.0 we can get a turbo 86 since it wont cannibalize the 2.0 sales. A man can certainly dream

They make a Civic Type R. They make an Acura Integra Type-S.

I'm just happy it's available even with the price difference.
If the Supra had a back seat and more usable trunk room, I would have bought the manual when it came out. But it doesn't so I didn't. But I think it is ridiculously good and exotic looking - especially for the price.

They garner attention more than you'd ever think. People constantly pace you and take pictures; it's surprising to me.

I've gotten thumbs up and people looking at my 86, but it's nothing compared to that thing lol.

One thing I was surprised by seeing them in person is how much road presence they have. Definitely eye-catching compared to what they look like in pictures.

Yeah, they look far better in person. There are quite a few things that stand out in photos that make them look oddly proportioned or just weird, but in person they look amazing IMO

The 86 has more seats
But does it really? With my front seats in the normal driving position, I could not fit my fist between the front and rear seat. Can you even call that a seat, if no normal person could ever realistically fit in it?
Only Lieutenant Dan would be able to sit in the backseat of the GR86 comfortably.

And X3 on the MKV Supra looking far better in person than it does in pictures or magazines.

To me, the 86 has one more seat than the Supra, which is perfect for me. Me plus two kids. One in the front passenger seat, and the other behind him. Without that, I wouldn't have an 86.

You can fit a lot more in the 86, especially with the rear seats down. And yes, my gf has sat across the seats in the back seat in the GR86 where as in our Supra that wouldn't be an option period.

I find it interesting the 2.0L Supra is not even available to buy, purchase or import or anything where I live. There are none in this country (Australia) and Toyota Australia made a strong statement they will not be releasing it here because it will not sell well. I think the idea is that if someone is shelling out that much money for a sports car most, if not all, will opt for the highest spec and in Australia thats been proven to be true with other brands of cars. Base models are the least purchased brand new car here and are typically special order if you want one.

Toyota needs ONE sporty car with reliable engine ;) shots fired. ducks.
I can think of a couple of reasons why someone might choose an I4 > I6 Supra. Aside from LSD, dampers, and brakes, both versions of the Supra should be identical, right?
1. Cheaper than the I6. Even with markups, I4 should still be more affordable.
2. Buying it for the looks.
3. Engine swapping. (Drift car, drag car, etc.)
4. Availability
This is just one man's opinion, but I think the GR86 is quite a bit better looking than the new Supra whatever the engine it has in it. Having said that, I wonder what our GR86's would be like if they had the four cylinder engine out of the Supra instead of the flat four Subaru engine? As long as the transmission was still a manual I bet it would be an even better sports car!

would be faster yes but not sure better as natural aspiration suits this car’s driving style and price point.
