Back in July, my engine failed at ~29000 miles due to low oil pressure. No check engine light, but pretty heavy knocking when it happened at ~75 mph. I had it towed to my local dealership, Acton Toyota of Littleton to have it investigated and eventually covered under warranty. They initially made a claim that I had money-shifted the car to ~11000 RPM at one point (not true), but said they wouldn't report it to corporate and cover the rebuild. Definitely a suspicious claim to hear, but they got the job done and I got my car back.
Fast-forward to a month later after a 1000 mile break-in period, and I get a solid check engine light while pulling onto the highway after being stuck in a traffic jam (around 85-90 mph after reaching the highway straight). Thinking something was wrong again, I immediately went back to Acton Toyota to have it checked over. At this point, they now claim that the check engine light came on because I approached "maximum speed" of the car, which they claim is 103 mph (obviously not true). It's also at this point that they effectively threaten to void my warranty if they see any reported speed in the ECU remotely close to that again. I decided not to go back there from then on, despite being a customer since 2016.
And now we reach today, where I happened to hit 103 mph on another highway straight. Car immediately throws a flashing check engine light, so I pull over to the side of the highway. I just got an oil change last week so I'm topped up, the car is idling fine, and get this: the light shuts off as I'm slowing down and didn't come back as I finished my work commute at an average speed of 65-75 mph. It's pretty clear at this point that they've reprogrammed my ECU to throw this check engine light to store and deny me any future engine warranty coverage. A pretty messed up situation all around.
Ironically enough, Acton Toyota was the one who initially denied the warranty claim on the infamous blue GR86 that failed while on a track and made the news, which I completely forgot about until after I left my car with them. If I had remembered that story, I wouldn't have brought it to them to begin with. Not entirely sure how to proceed from here, but definitely do not take your car there.
