I officially hit my first 1,000 miles in my GR86 and am ready to do my first oil change. Since I was gonna do that. Might as well fix the RTV issue as well, right? I purchased a GReddy oil pan baffle (since I was already going to have the pan off) as well as a GReddy magnetic oil pan plug.
I bought my picks, I got an endoscope, and was ready to tackle this job. Have you ever wanted to commit insurance fraud on a new vehicle? I sure was after about 2 hours of pulling all of the RTV out of the puck up tube. Guys... 1,100 miles and it sickens me how much was in there.the worst part was... most of it, was NOT from the actual oil pan! It's black. Which means it's from the gaskets they made on the casings and other components internally.
Now, after 2 hours and still not getting it all out, I came up with the MOST genius idea ever! I took a silicone straw, electrical taped it to the skinny attachment of a shopvac, put a piece of pantihose over the main hose abd put that attachment on. Turned that puppy on and stuck the straw up the pickup tube! Bro.... 5 fucking minutes and I was done!
I'll post pics below to try abd help explain my rig better!
Oh also, I do not recommend the GReddy oil pan baffle. It works, yes! However I'm pretty sure it's designed to be put on abd then instill the pickup tube. Which means you need to take off the crank case. I took a HUGE gamble and unsolved the pickup tube bracket that is visible in the upper oilpan. I gambled pulling back on the pickup tube to shimmy the baffle over the bracket. I do NOT recommend doing that unless you reaaaaaally trust yourself. You very much risk breaking that tube. I paid $200 for that baffle and it came in only Japanese instructions. Some of the baffles I saw in the $300+ range bolt between the block and the oilpan. And just need double silicone gasket. A much better option in my opinion. Plus had more baffle that the GReddy one. Better than nothing! But if I knew now back then during purchase, I'd have gone with a better one.
