Long time lurker from the UK. Been eagerly awaiting news of the GR86 for some time now and to be honest it's been disappointing and somewhat off putting.

Contacted Toyota UK and dealers only to be told they know nothing and to sign up for the news updates/keep me informed mailing list. Of course that has remained silent since Goodwood back in August - not even a "hey, the wait is almost over - stay tuned".

Given the above, its almost like Toyota are not overly keen to support this product in Europe and have even less interest in those who are eager to know when they can reserve a car. I say this as the new Aygo was announced in October and can now be reserved and has more information on it than the GR86 has had in the last 7 months.

Hopefully this is not a sign of things to come (last time something like this happened and it was Honda UK and the new NSX and we all know how that went. No support, no interest, only 2 dealers could service the car in the UK etc).

Well Toyota GB have confirmed the reservation list and deposits will be taken from Spring 2022. they posted a reply in that link by Riskybiscuits to the article about the GR86 being on sale for 2 years. So if that is the case it’s more like late March 2022 onwards by my reckoning, as Spring does not strictly speaking start till late March/early April.

With that in mind, I wonder when deliveries will commence? Summer 2022? So maybe less than 2 years on sale perhaps?

Interesting stuff. My comments come not only from the very little we get in the uk but also thinking logistics. If the GR86 must be removed from sale by a hard deadline and orders are only going to start in Late March/April, past experience tells me, cars will most likely arrive in waves/batches, with the 1st for the UK at least in the summer by my reckoning.

it also makes 2024 interesting as I am sure Toyota do not want to be left with cars stuck at Emden port, Zeebrugge port or somewhere unsold , only for them to be non compliant for sale in Europe. so my suspicion is that a final wave of deliveries will be in early 2024 and that would be it. Just over 1.5 years on sale. I say that as it normally takes 8 weeks for a car to be built and shipped from Japan to a central port. From there, onwards to its final country of destination.

Anyway, pure speculation on my part so hopefully I am proved wrong.

Not sure about everyone else, but i find the lack of updates from Toyota Europe (like our market is somewhat of an after thought if they can be bothered) somewhat off putting alongside some of the dealers reputation local to me. Last time i commented on this thread however, i had heard from Toyota UK saying nothing would be released i.e. the order books would not even open until End March/Early April so perhaps we are being unfair as it's still early Feb. Toyota Europe are probably still debating what shade of grey, black or white they will offer with the car, alongside the black on black interior.

Well its the 21st Feb and well... Nothing!

in other news TVR may actually produce a customer car before the GR86 comes to Europe!

Ok ok i jest... just find the wait and lack of information comical when Toyota showcased a production ready model in Goodwood a good while ago. Any longer and it will be like that TVR which was shown in 2018 and still waiting for deliveries/price lists etc

Well given the lack of news here in the UK, i am afraid i am out too.

the likelihood of these cars getting the mandatory speed limiters installed also puts me off. No one has confirmed to the contrary and given the car has not launched yet, then the likelihood is that the cars will have them!

No idea why there was a big fan fare in Goodwood last year about this car if the launch in Europe as a whole was going to be significantly delayed with little or no information forthcoming. It’s just mind boggling.

Best of luck to those who have successfully ordered a car - dont forget pics when you get them. Alas this is a car that was not meant to be for me.

That only concerns new approvals from 6 July 2022.
Exactly. So has the car been approved in europe considering the car has not been launched anywhere in Europe as yet? Not sure how the EU will determine if a car has been launched before this date or not but i always thought that if the car is not available nor in most countries offered for sale (an indicator would be a Recommended on the road price etc) then it will be interpreted as launched after this date.

Otherwise, i could see this as a loophole for manufacturers to circumvent the regulation for 2 years i.e. get type approval for a car not available or launched until well after this date.

Interesting developments here in the UK.
I gave up on getting a GR86 but a friend agreed with most of you and kept his eyes peeled.

Well in an interesting twist theres lots of stories about the Corolla GR coming (US only apparently) and nothing about the GR86. So much so it does not appear on the website anymore under the new cars section where it said “coming soon”.

An genuine mistake following a website refresh or is there more to this? Perhaps the launch in the UK has been delayed indefinitely until further notice? All a bit ominous.
