Hey all,

I just got some champiro sx2 in 225 45 r17. I don't have a second set of wheels yet so I was planning to mount these on the OEM base model wheels for now, 17x7.5 +48

I went to a tire shop today to get them mounted and the head honcho there said that the new 225s would probably rub up front. Is this accurate? Do any of you run this tire setup, and if so does it rub?

Sorry for the low-quality post but I haven't been able to find anyone else's response to this specific question.

The head honcho is way off. Those will clear with ease.

They wont rub. I am on stock suspension and running 245s on wider wheels with +45 offset and they do not rub on the fenders or struts.

Thanks guys!!

That's what I get for going to the only tire shop open on Sundays lol

I also wanted to point out, it worries me the knowledge level of said head honcho. Nearly every car out there can stick on a set of tires that are a mear 10mm wider on stock setup without issue.

Agree. He probably knows a lot of stuff doesn't know it all. Absolutely right to question it.

Before you dismount existing tires, turn steering lock to lock and check for clearance. Put in some compression while doing that too. Jack up the right rear then check left front clearance. Any owner can do that.

Anyone that went up to 225, what was your experience like driving the car before and after what did the car feel like any differences?
I’d like to know this too. Thinking of going 225/45 on an aftermarket set of 17s, maybe OZ Hyper GT HLT. I’d like more sidewall and to better fill out the wheel wells, but don’t want to make the car harder to slide or screw up something else. Thinking Conti DWS for the tires. Or Pilot Sport AS.

Stock set up is Pilot Sport 4 on 18” rims.

Would love to hear views on this!

honestly 10mm difference you wont notice too much difference in daily driving, maybe a little more front end feel (slightly firmer feeling steering)
depends on what tires. If you were putting on a set of 225 200tw tires they will have a much more noticeable difference in feel than just a set of regular summers

Thx. PS the rims I’m looking at are 7.5” wide, compared to 7” for stock rims (I think). The Tire Rack tests seemed to get the best overall results for 225 on 8” rims, though results also good on 7” rims. The other combos with good results inc some that are prob best for just track use, eg 245s on 9” rims.

Immediate difference in ride, but that's also with a tire change to Pirelli P7 Cinturato which seems to be a softer and less grippy compound.

Less harshness on the initial impact of bumps for sure. This is at 32psi on all four.
