Finally, delivery day! Absolutely no one touched the car once it was unloaded except the salesperson, who took it to fill up the gas tank and adjust the air pressure in the tires. I did get the service manager to turn off fake engine noise (a.k.a. Active Sound Control) with the diagnostic service software. I didn't let them drill the rear bumper for screws: I put the temp tag in the rear window and off I went. I've had a long week and the drive home was through insane traffic and construction. I saw a guy in a red GR86 behind me on Fields Ertel Road north of Cincinnati and gave thumbs-up, which was returned. We were pacing each other on I-71 southbound for a while. When I got home this afternoon, I just parked it and walked away, exhausted. This weekend I will be checking it out, doing my own prep, and giving it its first wash.
Quick impressions from the drive home: quieter interior than I expected, more compliant ride than I expected yet still very stable with no wallowing, flatter cornering than I expected. I thought the brakes felt strong with good modulation. Forward visibility is great but backing up I'm thankful for the camera; the center rearview mirror shows nothing of the immediate surroundings and you can't see the rear corners of the car in the sideview mirrors. With ASC off, I got on the throttle moderately and thought the induction sound was pleasing. When using paddles in D, the software will upshift if you aren't accelerating (yuck). I haven't yet tried it with the stick in manual mode. Speaking of the auto stick, it's very cool and is like a simulated manual in appearance and operation. I have a green light on the dash that looks like a car backing off a rollback trailer. Need to look it up and find out what that means. I quickly figured out the digital turn signals and have no problem or complaint with them. It was a warm day and the AC felt properly cold. There seemed to be a weird delay to open the trunk / boot, and one time the car wouldn't let me open the passenger door from outside when I had the engine on and the driver door open. Some of this may be operator error, not sure, need to RTM. Exhaust tips too recessed as has been mentioned; will be doing the fix. The steering wheel is fantastic and I surprised myself by liking the Alcantara in the Limited. I had thought it would be a gray color, but actually it is black.
This will be the start of a beautiful relationship!
