dumb question for y'all: why is he in track mode? Going in a straight line on public roads at very high speeds, I'd think I'd want to be in reg mode. I can still track oil temp. And there's no real difference in the info on rep or mph. What's the advantage of track mode in this situation?

Also wonder if he hit the speed limiter. I see he's only at 6100 rpm when he reaches an indicated 229kph/142mph.

Yes good observation on the 6100 rpm. For me the reason to be in track setting is because I don't want the traction control or the vehicle stability programs to reduce throttle or add braking. Also you certainly wouldn't want the pre-collision braking to engage. As a fun test go to a roundabout in standard mode and set your cruise control to 35 mph and go around it and watch what happens to your speed and then put your car in track setting and try to hold the throttle at 35 mph and go around it and see what happens. Also the cruise control does not function over 90 mph

I'd do regular mode too. More safety nets would be better. Is top speed supposed to be electronically, drag, or gear limited?

@Outtopasture - the precollision stuff only applies to AT cars.

Interesting. Do you think this would be true on the MT? In that case the cruise control would be fixed. I assume the ATs come with adaptive cruise, since radar is needed for the AEB anyway.

Good question. Yes my car has adaptive cruise control. I live in a small town where most of the speed limits are 25 and 35 so I just set my cruise control at 38 in the 35 Zone and I have noticed when I go around corners I'm down to 30 miles an hour. I try to minimize Tire scrub. Maybe someone with a manual contest their cruise control

Top speed is electronically limited by a soft limiter that slowly closes the throttle as you go up in speed. I have done some back of the envelope calculations that suggest the car shouldnt be drag limited until ~160-165 if it were allowed to go that fast.

Some of y’all have more balls than I do, I enjoy screwing around at moderate speeds but anything 100+ starts freaking me out, even in a straight line
I mean from a legal, get my toys taken standpoint I agree.

From an everything else, nah. I've done 80 on a dirt road(wrx) and dirt bike. 160 on a bike although not sure I'd do that now, that was almost 20yrs ago.

Used to see how fast I could take a long sweeper leaving work (in bfe). Best was 97. Could only get low 90s in the brz as it would start to slide a bit.

I've hit 110 a few times in my Fiesta ST, only once gone above. A month ago a Supra was in the slow lane and I guess he read my mind. He got behind me and I punched it till we hit traffic. Got up to 130.

Yet to push my GR86 that far.
